Overrated movies that bother you due to their popularity

Quarantine, Don't really know if it will be popular or not yet, too soon to tell but the actors have been all over the talk shows as of late.

See "Rec" it's the original, amazing movie, end of story. Learn how to read (subtitles), no need for shitty American remake. Same goes for every other good foreign horror flick. (the grudge, ringu, pulse, the eye ect.)

Sorry had to get that off my chest...

no need to be sorry, the remake looks incredibly shit - and it gives away the ending in the trailer.

[REC] was only released last year, and it has Hollywood gloss so i'm not sure why the studios would think it would need a remake so soon after the original, are modern filmgoers so intolerant to subtitles??

also on the Revenge Trilogy, imo it goes Oldboy (so good), Mr. Vengeance and then Lady Vengeance. Lady is definitely the most beautiful of the 3, but imo it's also the weakest story-wise, but not to say it is bad - it's just the other two are very good.

I agree with nicotine in the comment about the shared theme without being too similar.

Back on topic, Juno is an indie try-hard, not as good as the media have made it out to be.

"Amelie" is the worst overrated piece of crap I've ever seen. French people tend to be proud for nothing

ohhhh I loved Amelie and totally have a crush on her.

Amelie is like, how I imagine every French girl ever is, in my mind. Except like more of a total nympho, naturellement

This and Blade Runner are the only things i've disagreed on so far (Blade Runner rules)

I second everything except I'm guilty of liking FMJ and early Jarmusch. Also, there is ONE Korean director worth watching; Hong, Sang-Soo. Reminds me of Cassavetes.

I'd like to mention:

* 2046

* Fincher

* Tarantino

* People thinking DeNiro/Pacino automatically makes a movie better

* post goodfellas Scorsese although these aren't really that highly regarded

* and any Aronofsky

2046 is a good crash course in WKW-ism, and I don't mean that as a compliment. The only works of his that really hit me were Days of Being Wild and Happy Together.

Tarantino's works are good within the context of the time they came out. But yeah I don't think it ages so well...loved RD and PF back in the 90s, dont wanna watch em any more, Kill Bill floored me when both came out, would not want to give them a second viewing.

I think the last good movie in either De Niro or Pacino's catalogue is Heat. I hope the Pacino Salvador Dali vehicle redeems him...oh yeah he wasn't bad in Insomnia. Doesn't matter to De Niro since he's a real estate mogul-cum actor rather than other way around these days.

and i still look forward to seeing The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke is my hero.

oh yeah another addition i have to the list:

- HK cinema in general. Apart from the work of a few directors, in general I don't see the fuss.

^ Definitely agreed on Heat. I liked Pacino in The Insider as well, but it's just been strikeout after strikeout from there on out. DeNiro's just had nothing going for the last 15 years...a few I'm entertained by, but nothing at the level he was at.

give pacino the opportunity to raise his voice and the fanboys will claim oscar buzz. its tired.

deniros face has been falling off for years. havnt felt him since casino.

wrestler looks wicked.

i dont get these new pseudocomedies/slacker dramas. forgetting sarah marshal did nothing for me and i watched pineapple express and couldnt really even find the parts that were supposed ot be funny. maybe i should start smoking weed again, but i cant find anything in these films. superbad had me on the dick pictures, but that was it.

i feel this thread is deviating from " Overrated movies that bother you due to their popularity" to "hate on popular films you dont like"

mass i know your list was half in jest ( at least i hope so), but do you seriously think all korean films, are hyped up, beyond their correct position in popluar culture?

and hating on all of oliver stone's and kubrick's output is beyond stupid, its ignorant and dangerous to the very fabric of society.

neg rep for you.

yo hating on amelie is like kicking an HIV positive nigerian child soldier whose family was killed mining diamonds and his orphanage pimps him to bushmen when he isnt forced into commiting genocide; explosively out of order. i cant even comprehend not liking that movie. maybe you dont think its a great film, but it certainly isnt anything to complain about.

requeim for a dream

trainspotting were both unbearable. (7) minus the begbie.

maybe im simple, but pineapple express was the best comedy put out the past 2 mins.

add grandma's boy too.

exaggerated violence, a strong supporting cast, no wasted scenes. plus kevin mcbride killed it.

"u just got killed by a daewoo lanos, bitch" was THAT line.

"crossroads" playin in the background while bleeding to death etc etc.
