since someone posted an orange amp, and serge talking shop about mesa's, i figured a bunch of us play guitar. post your gear.

guitar gibson sg

amp(s) fender 1969 twin orginal, replaced the speakers, JCM 800 1 channel combo.

always wanted an orange back in the day, but as my style and playing progressed, i found that i didn't use any distortion so i'm happy with the twin. still really want a fender jazzmaster, due to old robert smith photos and kevin shields

I don't play much anymore, but here's my gear:

Amps:

1974 Marshall Super Lead (for sale, PM me for the GBase listing)

Sovtek Mig 100G

Ampeg Super Jet

Fender 4x12 cabinet

Guitars:

1985 Kramer Focus 3000 (my first real guitar, bought it new)

Strat-style custom built by ESP in New York

90's American Standard Telecaster w/Duncan PU's

and my baby

1972 Stratocaster that some previous owner butchered in the 80's. It plays super nice, but it's been thru hell and needs a re-fret badly. strat.jpg

I've also got a giant box of effect pedals that I've been selling off, I stopped using all but one (a Frantone Peachfuzz) years ago.

Well, bass rig at least:

2006 Lakland Bob Glaub Skyline, black with tortoise shell pickguard

Roland KC-550 (keyboard amp with wonderfully clean channels and amazing low end and crisp highs)

I find it to be a decent p-base rig, especially when some of the amp's shortcomings are mitigated by pedals. Absolutely nothing to complain about when it comes to the bass; the craftsmanship, look, heft, and tone are wonderful.

An Agile Les Paul copy. I really love Les Pauls but I was in HS at the time and had no money. So I did my research and instead of getting an Epiphone a lot of people said Agile makes the best fake LPs, closest to the real thing as possible. Sounds great: made of real AA grade mahogany/maple, ebony neck with abalone inlays and decent pick-ups, generic but they sound almost as good as duncans. Set me back 400.

Then for my amp I use a Roland Cube practice amp. I have a fender tuner pedal and Boss SD-1.

Cables I have DiMarzios and I usally use Ernie Ball slinky strings.

I haven't really been playing as of lately though.

that's awesome that there are so many guitar and bass players here.

i'm primarily a jazz trumpet player. but i do play a little guitar:

epiphone SG

cheap ibanez bass

ncie spanish guitar made out of sycamore

30 watt fender champion amp

vox wow-wow pedal.

my trumpets are much nicer:

an 80s era burbank benge medium-large plus silver-plated

a london besson

gustat mouthpiece replica (repro of what miles davis used to play)

1C bach megatone mouthpiece

3C bach standard

14A4A shilke (i rarely play this one)

I don't have a lot of gear and I usually butcher the stuff I got. I like to fiddle with the electronics and make them lose value.

- Gibson 59 Black Beauty reissue, outfitted with EMG's

- Hamer Standard USA (changed all hardware to gold)

- Jackson SL1 USA oufitted with a Dimebucker

- Homemade Flying V with PRS pickups

- Cordoba 90's classical guitar (forget which model)

Here's a picture of my homemade V:

Funny thing is, with all this gear, I can't really play worth a damn… I just pretend I do.

my guitars:

squier affinity strat (my first electric guitar)

gibson sg faded brown

martin acoustic (dont remember the model number)

my amp is a marshall combo amp and i regret getting it. i realized that for the same price i couldve gotten a fender amp with better features.

get a jcm800 first before you go boutique. the distortion/preamp on it is amazing. There's a reason why they say that Van Halen plays a JCM800 behind stacks of 5150's. Corgan used it and Shields used it. That's enough convincing for me.

Mmmmmmmm. jcm800. Good call.

2001 Gibson SG Special in Cream with gold hardware and ebony fretboard.

Bass player here but I dabble in guitar:

Fender Standard Precision Agave Blue

Musicman Stingray 4 Sunburst with black pickguard

Carlo Robelli Acoustic

Squier Strat

Fender Bassman 25

Small 10w Brownsville

I would love to get an ampeg classic half-stack in the near future though.

I am very slack about my playing lately, because I'm being a lazy fuck. Mainly play jazz and some rock.

Gibson Real Feel '59 RI Les Paul

PRS Hollowbody II AP

Blockhead Firstborn 18w 2x12 combo

Gibson GA-5

Need to add an old blackface Fender, but other stuff has been sapping away all my cash lately.

  • 2 months later...

lately i've been going artcore(half a step down)>boss blues driver>amp with all the eq's cranked to ten and playing with the neck pickup. I get the honest-to-god best hardblues sound i've ever heard. With the eqs brought down, this also works with for a good 60's fuzz sound- ala hendrix- without a fuzzbox.

right now i pretty much only play my martin d-1.

and whoa, wasnt expecting to see someone else who owns a talman. i have the one with the flame maple top, in yellow (or "butterscotch" as i think they described it in the catalogue). no amp right now bc i havent played electric guitar in years...but i just got the talman set up actually and need to pick up a decent little practice amp...anyone have any suggestions? im in an apartment, and dont plan on playing out with it, so its ok if it's not mega loud.
