Belts

Recommended Posts

Hey! First post on here! Just found this amazing site and have been intrigued ever since. I've been collecting LVC/Lee/Sugar Cane/Edwin and vintage denim for about 10 years. I'm also making leather belts and this thread is right up my ally. Here's a few I've made:

I specialize in vintage style stud belts, but could make pretty much anything I've seen in this thread. Not trying to spam, just show some enthusiasm!

cheers,

Matt

Very cool! I'm a big fan of that style. Do you know much about the history of those belts?

I bought this one in London a while back but haven't really been wearing it since I soaked myself in a splash ride which has left a stain on pretty much the whole lower half of the belt. Tried oiling the belt to even out the stain but I guess the result isn't as effective as I'd hoped.

That is still a pretty wicked looking belt!

Replying to Baeyer-Drewson :

Got it for around 40£ iirc . Not exactly cheap but I think it's worth it. The shop I bought it from also has a few other belts with similar kind of pattern but I chose this one because I'm obsessed with Japanese stuffs.

While we're on the topic - has anyone experienced this water-stain issue before? I'm wondering if the colour is going to even out with wear. Also, would oiling (tanning ) the belt help with the matter?

Here are a few more belts I use in rotation.

This one is from Diesel. I know it doesn't conform to SUFU taste ;) but I bought it over 4 years ago. I didn't even know raw denim exists! :D It still holds up pretty well though.

This one is from Dapper (a local brand here in Thailand).

Yeah, studded belts have been around forever (leather and studs have been used in armor for centuries). The western/motorcycle style belts gained popularity in the United States starting in the 1930's and went all the way into the early 1960's. Earlier versions of the belts often have a belt buckle with Navajo symbol (similar to a swastika) that was deleted after the US became involved in WWII. There are a few makers of these belts today, but no large commercial manufactures make the traditional belts like the did in the mid 20th century. Almost every old catalog I have from that era has a few styles available for sale in them. I'll try to get some old pics and post them on here for you.

I would recommend cleaning the belt with Lexol leather cleaner and then conditioning the belt either with saddle soap or another conditioner (Lexol makes one also). You could also either soak the belt in leather or use a damp/wet cloth to moisten the rest of the belt. The idea is to get the same "color" going throughout the belt. If you wet the belt again, be sure to let it dry out slowly. Heating the leather can cause the leather to dry out and crack (worse thing to do with wet shoes/boots too).

You might want to use a small amount of saddle soap or other conditioner to keep the belt from drying out after a few months. You can surely wait until it's broken in though!

I very, very rarely even notice it. It's really not that big and my ass is well padded.

Going to buy my first good belt to wear with my skinny jeans. I think I'm going to get the Flat head one, but should I get black or tan?

I tend to wear black shoes but I'm planning on buying some white low court shoes.

Would the tan not go with black shoes? Should I get black instead?

I'm new, sup? heh

your belt should match your shoes... go black if you're going to wear black. Black will also go with your white court shoes
