hi guys, i need some styling advice in regards to the color tone of leather belt and leather shoes/boots.

Is it ok to wear a dark brown belt with a pair of light brown shoes (e.g. alden indy 405)? will it look awkward?

Thank you very much for your help ~

My belt, worn for about three years and exactly the same new bespoke belt.

And one more photo of my belts – a wonderful demonstration of how beautiful the patina of the oak bark bridle leather looks.

Good question mate! I think it looks better to keep the colour of belt and shoes/boots the same. However, I was reading around and, for casual wear, there is a view that there's more flexibility. I'd say this is only flexibility within shades of brown though as brown/black belt/shoes or vice versa doesn't look quite right imo. I think for casual, the leather type can also vary and look good as a contrast e.g. leather belt with rough out shoes.

Contradicting my preference above, I've been wearing a darker tan belt with lighter boondockers (see recent WAYWT post). I think it's possible to get away with it but I'm not sure it's the best so I'm mulling over belt options myself.

Apart from our kind of obsessives, I'm not sure anyone out there notices with casual wear!!  It boils down to what you think it looks like.

Why not post a pic? See what the sufu group have to say.

Variables and choices...
Lighter tan boots (which will darken over time)
3 leather belts of different colour leather, texture, buckle metal and buckle style (Tender, Honest Thomas, IH); 1 basic canvas belt
Applied to Jeans, chinos, army pants
Let's not go there with wallet chains or types of denim or rough out belts
With jeans - all work but I personally prefer lighter tan
With chinos - Tender by virtue of the buckle, though a less thick belt would be a worthy consideration
With army green - the canvas beater
And they thought that splitting the atom was complicated!!! :D
And I bet I have missed a good few criteria in my analysis!!!

Hey Petez, I own 2 wallets from Charlie at Equus Leather made from Haas Barenia and can attest to his devotion to superb workmanship and quality materials. He is also a pleasure to deal with. Checkout the Equus thread at styleforum.net where you can read the accolades from his many devoted and satisfied customers who rate both Sedgwick and Baker leathers extensively. Good Luck

A pair of distressed roughout belts. Made from roughout oak bark tanned leather (J&FJ Baker) and finished with a hand burnished stonewashed solid brass fasteners.
