Love this Pherrows belt

Actually Narragansett Leathers makes those: http://www.narragansettleathers.com/PelicanHookBelt.html and they take international orders.

Each belt is only $64, and looks higher quality than the Pherrow's belt. Only downside is no plain veg tan option, but they sound quite accommodating. They may also be the originator of this style (not too sure about that though).

Edit: after a more thorough look, Pherrow's version looks thicker and may be finished a bit nicer. But still, the Narragansett offer pretty good value in comparison.

I've been looking for a full plate style belt buckle since getting my new belt and found a well worn vintage Kenneth Reid buckle that I liked recently, made from 3 types of wood, turquoise & brass.

I know when I see this style of buckles on here they're usually all metal, but I'm a big fan of wood. I also found a guy that will make custom plain wood buckles in various shapes from about 30 different types of wood. I may order one sometime soon.

He has pre-made ones you can order immediately at this link.

I'm also thinking about getting one of his 3 layer rings made. He offers the same many of the same woods in any configuration you want.

yea_ tho it does not really have much wear yet. i only did 1 pass of Obenauf when i got them_ shouda conditioned from the getgo, before the Obenauf. anyway, i'm just giving it time to get hungry enough for a thorough conditioning.

maybe you got some better advise? :)

^ Nup, sounds good, no advice :P

I reckon because the leather has been hand-stuffed it won't need conditioning for a while, but an application of a good oil then & now won't hurt, haha.

That Equus belt is the forum special "russet" one right?

Really nice to see real British bridle in a natural colour :)

I haven't heard back from Charlie re: my belt yet, should I send him a PM?

^yea, it's the "russet". the leather is substancially thicker than the one used on the Australian Nut lot. Charlie's quite good in communicating. he's either trying to put enough orders for a lot or waiting for materials to roll in.

when did you put in the order? usual turn-around is 1 month__ got mine in 3 wks cuz i opted not to do high polish on the brass buckle. just send him a pm @SF :)

You could look into milsurp.

Besides the US I know a few of the Warsaw Pact countries issued them for while during the Cold War not sure if they still do though.

A lot of the German and Czech surplus I've seen is in unissued condition and around $20 - 30 apiece.

And of course the dozens of eBay/Craiglist whatever listings.

**edit the last one has a roller buckle but has the edge creased like issued belts so you could change the buckle with little difference.

Just got the Baker belt from Equus today. I grabbed the belt they used for the photos on their clearance section for an even better price than it originally was. Thought I would compare it to another belt made with some leather from Bakers, the Quercus from Terry Dear.

I have been wearing the Quercus very regularly since the original group order (can't remember when that was), and I have oiled it once with some neatsfoot after a few months wear. The Baker belt is fresh out of the package, and it is much softer and more pliable out of the box than the Quercus was. The grain is also a bit different, with the Quercus seemingly less uniform overall.
