I love Optic Nerve...

I used to read comics avidly as a kid...

Recently I walked into the local book store and they were promoting 'graphic novels'... so I browsed... walked out with the full collection of Alias (Bendis) and much of the recent run of DD (again by Bendis) and I finally got the last chapter of Preacher, and a bunch of Warren Ellis titles.

Bendis is going to go down as one of the greatests like Moore, Gaiman, Morrison, etc.

Highly recommended.

^ I heard that too

Forgot to mention that I freaking love Astonishin X-Men. I don't watch Buffy at all, but Whedon can write the X-Men like nobody's business. Solid Gold.

Sandman, Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns are other faves... I guess I just prefer the superhero-y ones.

have you checked out Tom Strong? it's another interesting take on the superhero genre by Moore. It has a very "classic" feel, a la scifi circa the '40s/'50s. it's neat.

actually, I was thinking of checking out Promethea (which I hear is very meta-textual)... maybe I'll check out Tom Strong while I'm at it.

I was not a huge fan of Promethea... not really sure why. I think Tom Strong is a lot better. (Plus, the Tom Strong spin-offs/side stories are pretty cool....)

Chris Ware floors me.

I only can take his work in small doses.

One 'book' a year is about right.

ha.

Black Hole was great... then it ended... I wanted more... Not to mention it took about a gazillion years for each issue to come out... giving Optic Nerve a run for it's money...

Recently finished Smoke n' Mirrors... nice stuff... still not as good as American Gods but it did transport me...
