im writing a paper on the effect of printing technologies upon the politics of the illustrated image - from earlier papers i've got the transition to photography / politics of the photographic image pretty completely handled but I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions for paper / articles about how people perceived representation in earlier printed images (say pre-and-post-gutenberg press for instance) and whether their distribution / viewing changed in terms of how 'truthfully' they were perceived. random question thread?
