THIS OR THAT? (Use me for all your Should I Buy...? questions)

I've had a couple of pairs of the 3005s – they still get regular outings after five or six years, but I would say the thigh is fairly slim for a "straight" cut.

All-time most reliable for me would be Sugar Cane 47s; great all-round jeans at a reasonable price (especially the pair I thrifted at $10 ^_^), and more generously cut than the FH in terms of rise and pocket depth. SC2009s in the same waist size as the 47s have more room in the thighs and top block, with lighter weight denim. If I had to choose one pair of jeans for life, it would be SC47 – even Mrs mondo, who couldn't care less about such things, says "can you wear those jeans, you know, the ones that are faded just right?" if we're going out somewhere... and out of the dozen or so well-worn pairs of various makes hanging in my corner of the room, I know exactly which ones she's talking about

What would you recommend? I'm looking for something that's a straight cut with room in the thigh. I thought that FH 3005 or 3009 might be a good fit for me, but I'm open to other brands. (I know they're shutting down :()

There are quite a few options. For example: MFSC Lot 44, LVC 1955, SDA SD-102CB (lower rise), SDA SP-079 Earth, IH 1955S, Samurai S3000VX, SC Okinawa, SC SC40304, FW 601XX 1947, Stevenson San Francisco 747, Bob Dong 55 cut (608H)

Birthdays is approaching. Warehouse lot 900 or TCB slim 50.....

Know a lot of guys on here are not into slimmer fits  especially TCB  but I can't wear loose fits. Just don't suit me.

@Geeman I think the fit of the 900s is a little bit more well proportioned than the 50s slims personally. Denim on both is lovely, if quite different, as you already know I’m sure.

I hear you on loose fits but FWIW I think the WH 800 would suit you well, too...

I looked at the 8's but the 9 work better for me looking at the size chart.

For the TCB I'm really interested in the 50s denim, there isn't a worn pair that don't look great but the sizings concerning. Both Denimio suggestions and Ryos measurements suggest I could go for a 30 or even 29 waist! That's 2 below my normal size and (excluding Oni which are always well above tagged) of course the smaller the size the smaller the rise and it's already pretty low.

Is people's experience with TCB that they are buying down from their normal tag size ( I fell so Sufu 2009 ) and there's plenty of give in the denim?

Heaven forbid I may have to go slim R for the rise.....

@Geeman the waist on the 50s slims is definitely oversized quite a bit, I think to account for the fact that you’re wearing them on your hips, instead of your true waist. I encouraged my dad to size down one from his true waist and they fit him very comfortably. There is a fair bit of give in the 50s denim, but that rise is always going to feel restrictive, I reckon...

As for baker pants @BionicEye, having owned both Stan Rays and orSlows, I’d say the latter are well worth the jump in price. The fabric, fit, puckering, all just lovely on the orSlows; the Stan Rays felt a bit flung together and have a slightly unpleasant sheen when new, then become pretty flat and dull after lots of washes. I bought the Stan Rays in the hope they would scratch the itch. Ended up buying the orSlows as well and giving the Stan Rays away. Live and learn...

Would love to see a fit pic of your dad he and I may well be the same age and I've been thinking about buying the 50's slim...

I would like to get another N-1 boots in a near future to remplace my OakStreetBootmakers. I'm debating on a pair of Viberg Boondocker VS. John Lofgren M-43. I'm more into the John Lofgren because it's GYW and Vibergs are stitch down but at the same time I prefer Viberg Boondocker shape. Any advice or useful opinion ?

I have the slim R.  They are probably the most flattering jeans I own, can’t recommend them highly enough.  I wear a 36 and they fit true to size (for reference I can swing a 34 in other brands such as full count) so I personally wouldn’t size down.

@Collin both great looking boots in new and worn states (both Iron Horse and Broark have good looking worn in pairs).

I have the Viberg - personal preference swung by the shape, as you say, but particularly the cord sole which works really well.

RMC also do an N1 that looks more rough out though costs more.

@MJF9 Thanks for your input ! I've tried the RMC back in Tokyo but none of the size fitted me unfortunately.

I think John Lofgren would be better made overall with an higher attention in the Q&C part. I also like the GYW construction better on this boots and the "flat toe" construction. In the other hand Viberg has a more rounded shape and the sole is particularly good looking. (I already have Viberg service boots in CXL brown and I'm pleased with it). Hard to choose :)  If anyone have or had both, would you please let me know what you liked/disliked on the two different pairs ?

I have the Boondocker from Viberg, I've worn them pretty hard with very little maintenance (brushing, wiping down with a wet cloth every few months) and they've held up great.
The 2045 last might be my favorite fitting last, not too long and just wide enough with a nice round toe. Can't stand pointy-toed boots personally, so the Munson last is nice.
I've also thought about getting the Lofgren M-43 as I've been into his boots lately, but will probably hold off since I don't want to double up.
The Boondockers are due for a resole soon, might go local or try to get them resoled by Brian at Role Club.

Personally, I really prefer constructed heels to single-piece sole + heel combos, and I really prefer unstructured toes, so the Lofgrens were an easy choice.

Without speaking any more to personal aesthetic preferences, I can say that the soles and heels on the Lofgrens have held up better than those on any other boots that I've worn in a while; after more than a year of heavy wear they're still looking pretty close to new.

Cheers .... I've gone with TCB size charts and Denimio advice and sized down.....

Denimio will exchange for free as they advised the size to take based on previous purchases so no risk other than I'd have preferred to order from TCB direct.

Just out of interest they arrived and he 29 fit perfectly. Gold star for denimio, but wish I'd have trusted them and bought from TCB directly. The rise is borderline pornagraphic but just about doable.

The factory hem job and roping from the one wash is beautiful but they are going to have to be hemmed again for my stumpy legs.

Off to R&H they go. (Who also do an excellent hem)
