My one gripe with sandbox is they did a rerelease of Breaking Atoms on CD and it was a complete bootleg fake. I still buy from them, but ya know...

Any suggestions for online stores to buy vinyl from?

I'm in NY and know of some mom & pop shops that I like to grab records at, my favorite probably being Kim's.

Any suggestions for good record stores in the city would be helpful too.

mostly i'm shopping for techno, minimal. but these are the spots i hit up:

etherea on avenue a between 4th and 5th - etherea.net

halcyon on pearl street in (dumbo) brooklyn - halcyonline.com. they have other stuff too, but mostly etherea and halcyon specialize in good techno / minimal stuff. a good place to hit up after an early dinner at grimaldis

and sometimes i find some crazy rare shit at junk on north 9th in williamsburg. i found an original pressing of phuture - acid trax for $.75. if they knowo what they have, they'll price it accordingly. i did find a mint copy of jaz - hawaiian sophie for like $10.

I cosign the Turntablelab.com jawn. If your in nyc just go to the store opposed to buying stuff online. I've never been but Other Music is supposed to be decent too. Alot of it depends on what kind of stuff you want to buy.

other music is good, but they don't have a turntable to preview your shit, which is a major problem (correct me if i'm wrong).

it's impossible to get limited presses if you're from some where that doesn't have a large vinyl supplier (=. it really pisses u off when u go on discogs to find it $30 more than the original price

Record Store Days looks rubbish again, same as every year

This compilation looks pretty great though

 

Only heard the Trophy single that's on there, but I'm interested in most Italo-Disco comps

Shame it's limited to 2000 copies, let's hope I can snag one online or something

 

Also they're reissuing Sun Ra- Outer Spaceways Incorporated, which is pretty cool, shame the cover art on this reissue is pretty rubbish

took a road trip up to cleveland recently to do the biggest personal collection dig ive done to date. my girlfriend's dad's girlfriend's sister's husband (circles of separation shit) was a big band drummer and avid record collector. crazy frank sinatra, benny goodman, herb alpert, basie, ellington, ella, dorsey, les baxter, and on and on

 

pictures dont really do the collection justice; there was a whole other wall of crates

 

i was digging for loops and samples, had to pare it down otherwise id have left with way too many records. i did get around 10 sound effects records, a few other random library records, "sounds of north american frogs," "normal and abnormal breathing patterns" 7-inch, and a bunch of other weird/awesome stuff

RSD resellers are just ridiculous this year, I have Sun Ra in my eBay feed, and some of the asking prices for the "Outer Spaceways Incorporated" repress are ridiculous

Longing for the Past is really an amazing package, 4 discs (and it's incredibly well curated, one of the best compilations I've ever heard), and comes with a hardcover book filled with hundreds of pages of ethnomusicological essays, 78 label scans, photos, and more, I recommend picking up a copy.
