I believe it stands for "Two Cats Brand". Levi's has long been known as "Two Horses Brand" for the iconic image used on their patches; TCB uses a similar image, but one that features playful cats rather than workhorses.

Aha, that's why I was confusing them, the patch looks so similar. Thank you for the clarification!

I'm placing an online order with a UK retailer (they have couple brick n mortar stores in UK), and paid via credit card. I've then got an email from some third party service called nofraud.com, which is an american company, asking me to reply 'YES' if i indeed placed the order, and then asking for an email with picture of a valid photo ID and picture of my credit card but hiding first 12 digits of card number.

I then emailed the retailer and they confirmed it is legit and a new service they are using.

Is this common practice? Or is it even legal?

To me it feels completely dodgy. I have no problem showing ID in store, but I will not send my personal data like that over email.

@Niro I have never experienced that, ever, and share your concern about sending information like that over email.  Honestly I can't imagine how a company that is supposed to prevent fraud would encourage sharing that type of information over email.  It seems like a proactive fraud prevention service but I wouldn't feel comfortable using it.

I'm sure you have googled Nofraud.com, but this page seems to explain the process that was asked of you and may be helpful for anyone else who experiences this.

That seems pretty dumb. I don't see why a third party service like that is necessary with things like "Verified by VISA" or the Mastercard equivalent existing... especially since writing emails back and forth takes all the speed out of online transactions.

having trouble digging through the sufu archives figuring out how size Eternal 811...

If I want a fit similar to TCB 50s (true straight) how should I size for Eternal 811? Debating between 28 and 29.

I wear 28 in TCB for a perfect fit. My Resolute 710 are size 29 and too snug in the waist and thighs. My FC 1101 size 28 are too loose in the waist (I measured 30) but the thighs are fine. Thanks

a worthy article on the rise in popularity of denim thanks to the youth of the civil rights movement having their own 'vintage' resurgence...

"Hippies aimed to be “salt of the earth” with their communes and community farms, but for black sharecroppers, the style was a function of poverty, not fashion"

What can people tell me about 'The Hill-Side'? I see that they sell items by Tender as well as their own label. How is the quality (of the H_S label)?

The only thing I've ever gotten from the Hill Side was a pair of green, selvedge chinos about 4 years back, but it was made in Japan by J.S. Homestead. Have never heard complaints about HS stuff, but they also don't get much play here or on Denimbro.

Does anyone know anything about this brand 7CCR and these slip on chukkas? I saw them in the back of a photo on the Tender co thread, and I dig the elf/jedi vibe.

Both stores seem to have them out of stock, and need to be contacted for pricing so that probably means I can't afford them lol

Tried to search but no luck.

What do some members consider "must read threads?"

I read the entire "denim blunders" thread (which I feel any new member should read in its entirety), I read most of my favorite brand threads and enjoyed that.

Any recommendations for some good reads? New or old. Thanks.

the fullcount contest thread is entertaining especially for klue's much-maligned destruction of his jeans (gold paint! LOL), the double volante x miz "so i'm having a pair of jeans made" thread explains artisanal jean-making in the easiest but most informative way possible — this is where i learned for the first time what repro-artisanal details to look for in a pair of jeans — but unfortunately many of the pics in it are gone. there used to be an equally informative post, also with lots of pics, in the old andewhall site but that, sadly, is no more, too.

Is there a certain way Japanese stores measure the width and shoulders of shirts and jackets?  I often see something simple like a Buzz chambray have varying measurements among other vendors like off Rakuten.  I'll see, say, a jacket by a brand with measurements in the shoulders as 46cm while the same jacket is stated as 48cm at another vendor.

Noob question maybe but I’ve searched and couldn’t find the answer. The rep system, how does it work? I get pos and neg rep but what about trash, the blue up and down rep and super rep!?

I’ve been to their store in NYC (which is great) and own a denim selvage deck cap, 4 ties, 3 bow ties and a scarf from them. Construction is great but fabric is on a Japanese-obsessive level. I think there’re some vids on YouTube if you search there. Otherwise, just look at who stocks them. Do you trust theses stores? For my money they’re on par with any label dicussed here.

All - I'm looking for suggestions for a mid-lengt, mid-weight coat with an attached hood. This should be able to take ~1hr of rainshower in above freezing temp. A shorter, top quality duffle would do the trick but I'm not set on it and I'm not convinced by Gloverall's quality. I don't like the Filson snap-on hoods. The Iron Heart IHM-15 is very nice but probably too warm and not water resistant enough.

Thanks all!

@JDelage ah I was going to recommend the Filson waxed cotton jacket I'm currently wearing in the miserable November Rain until I got to your snap-on hood comment.  Does that really kill it for you?    It would otherwise be perfect for what you are looking for.  I live in Boston and this jacket is essential for the cooler/wetter weather that bookends the dead of winter. Can't find the exact model but it is basically this:

It looks like Filson offers a similar one with an attached hood, though it looks a little heavier:

I love Filson but those snap on hoods are a deal killer. I also don't like hoods that snap shut on your mouth. I don't have to deal with any weather so bad it would require that and it looks horrible and gets in the way.

I'm looking for a pair of slacks, wool or cotton, by a brand that uses natural dyes and is (preferably) small-scale / detail-oriented. Tender is the ideal brand for this in my mind but they don't have many non-denim options available this season. I would be grateful for any other recommendations!

@chicote

Maybe some Eidos or Offcine generale but unsure if it's natural dyed and how small/big they are. Unionmade might have more brands somewhere in there.

Or Lost Explorers. Though again I'm not exactly sure about their operations.

Have you looked at Kapital as well? They always seem to have something up their sleeves with dyes.

There's also zfactorie if you're wanting to go avant-garde/artisanal
