Kato denim

I'm pretty sure you could size one down. They have quite a big seat, especially if you don't touch the buckle back.

Can someone (Neil) say something to the effect of "don't put plastic buttons on the fucking premium jeans line" to someone important btw?

It's annoying as shit that I have my favourite pair of jeans with no friggin button to close the front with!

I just noticed a lot of stores in Japan carry odd waist sizes. I think I'll be in the market for a pair of 31W bucklebacks this fall!

My bucklebacks has reached their 6th month of wear and their second wash.

The green-cast is really shining through now!

Fit pics up in a few min. Photobucket is proving to be a bitch today.

Oh yeah, notice the complete lack of whiskers on the right leg which I mentioned earlier. I still have no idea why. They should be more pronounced on the fit pics.

I think they look great Opie. Kato are such an unusual cut. I think you got a nice fit there and good fades.

My bucklebacks are really just too big - I've even put a couple of darts in the back but they still look pretty enormous...

^Yeah, I heard Kato won't be available outside of Japan anymore, which is too bad. I also heard that the new parent company is not quite as attentive to detail, but I am not sure if this was just speculation. Sad news, though.

Hi neilfuji,

I read here that kato was bought out, but heard the other stuff from a kato retailer. So will there not be any stocklists outside of Japan?

Hey guys. Been holding on to this pair for awhile, but only started wearing them recently. Total wear about 2 months. Their washed, not raw and the denim feels great, heavy, soft and pretty hairy. Love the texture.

Pics! Colours are pretty much accurate

And a close up of the denim!

I don't have much experience with denim (got a pair of dukes, uniqlos, omnigods aside from these), but i must say that these pretty much the most comfortable. Fit is just right, just enough space in the thighs and calves and the denim feels real sexay! A welcome change if u've been wearing stiffer stuff.

This thread has been way to down for way to long.

Gotta hold on to those good things that are no more!

Therefore i'm reviving the thread with some pics of my now 10,5 month old bucklebacks. Active wear on these are about 8 months as these have been retired to weekend jeans while i break in my KMW 1950.

The colour is most accurate on the first few pics.

I don't know why, but i really like this angle of photo. The selvedge really makes it:

Whiskers (colour will be of from here on):

Shoddy crotch repair:

Fading of brand (OMGOMG, metaphor!):

And lastly a nice close up of the buckleback:

That's it for now folks.

P.S. For anyone interested in Kato clothing check out oki-ni.com.

They are having a 40% sale on all of their kato, and there's some nice shit in between. That fishermans shirt.. oh my..

He and his wife run ARN Mercantile. Some of the clothes (e.g. shirts) are not a million miles from the shirts you could get from Kato outside Japan.

Not many stockists that I've come across. Oki-ni stock their stuff, and I think Daniel Jenkins and Kiosk 78 have literally a couple of things. When Present first opened, they had some of their shirts, but I didn't see anything there last time I was in.

Thanks a lot The_D!

Really liking the 10th anniversary pants. Anyone got expierence with

Kato's 3D pants?

Also found a shop here in Holland today who had a few pair left.

Bought myself the buckle back pant in natural indigo in a hemp/cotton blend. Super soft and lightweight, perfect for upcoming summer. They were 200euro instead of 350E. If anyone is interested I can send you one. They had one 32, a 33 and one 34 left.

Nice evo, slowdownarthur, I remember that shirt as being fairly dark. Good to see this brand revived - who is running it now? Neil is long gone and I think, so is the original owner. I have a pair of Kato Red Cast O/W which are Ai dyed (double pot or some such gimmick) and have a uniform but pleasing blue color after a year or so of sporadic wear; mostly working on the house. They have lower back pockets which make it appear that you are sagging even when you are not!

Thanks lance. I've no idea about Kato now. Perhaps Lewis at superdenim would know? That's who I got the shirt from. Also, like you, I've got a pair of Kato jeans, (low slung, cinch-back, quirky as anything) that I wear sporadically; mostly working on the house!
