Thanks @smoothsailor, that painting’s great!! I really like how you placed the left wing tip up along the edge of the body, that’s really nice. The machine is a Micky sharpz - I was told that for some time in the 90s he produced machines under the name “Mickey bee”, but I guess this machine doesn’t have give much evidence pointing one way or the other.

Thanks Paul.. there was a couple of things didn't quite go as planned..

I'd been hunting down black X-Lite Pivot Plugs to match the stem cap, i machined a little cable hanger for the Klampers out of aluminium while i waited for a pair to turn up, i planned on using the plugs to bolt the hanger to the frame through the hole from the brake bosses instead of using that^ shitty zip-tie.. i finally got a set

fullsizeoutput_3651.thumb.jpeg.298df5e2c1453df34f369a1f335479cf.jpeg

..but the outside diameter of the plugs overlaps the frame, it looks terrible so i bagged that idea off

^Still got my wrist strapped.. around 5weeks ago, i was involved in a hit and run with a black cab at 6am, he drove into me (i had my lights on) and just left me in the fucking road and drove off.. i've got a fractured scaphoid.. cnut!

Ikr! .. i was just riding along minding my own biz.. i was approaching a turn on my left but i was going straight forward, i heard a black cab coming up behind me (they've got a pretty distinctive engine sound and no other cars on the road at that time) next thing he was along side and turned left straight into me, knocked me off my bike and fucked off up the hill/left turn.

I had both front and back lights flashing.. he can't have not seen me?

Yep, that's it, keeps your bread fresh.. they're not complicated.

We had a ceramic one with a ceramic lid but the lid slipped out of my hand when i picked it up.. it took a chip out of the corner of the bread bin and the lid cracked in half. i was going to make a replacement lid out of wood but couldn't motivate myself.. these^ vintage Brabantia are pretty hard to get hold of in the UK but they're 10 a'penny in some parts of Europe, i only paid £37 (inc tax) +£16 shipping with PostNL

We had exactly the same metal breadbox at home in the USSR in the 1970s. Only cream-colored and with a floral design.

*just because our kitchen is f**ked and when i eventually motivate myself to put a new one in.. not much will clash with cream

Do you remember the 1980s Glasnost/Perestroika tee shirts @Talan ? we used to holiday in and around the Eastern Bloc when i was a kid.. just because it was cheap!

I wanted one so badly.. the imagery was so strong but my dad said "No! you're not walking around a politically sensitive country bearing a t-shirt slogan which none of us understand"

Pleeeease!

No!!

In fact, I don't remember such shirts... I don't think there were any in the USSR. In a sense, the ideas of perestroika and glasnost were more popular in the West than in the USSR. The West hoped that the USSR could become a normal country (as later events show, hopes are little justified for most of the former Soviet Union), while for us it was an opportunity to first read books by banned writers like Solzhenitsyn or Orwell, and then travel the world, not much besides. When so-called perestroika began, few believed the USSR would collapse in a few years.

I always assumed the folks i saw on my hols around that time were either young hip Soviets or young locals of the Eastern Bloc on their summer holidays (Yugoslavia.. Vlore/Albania) I wouldn't say they were westerners.. they could have been eastern europeans. I was only young.

The t-shirt sellers on the street would be selling them along side their other knock-off goodies.. so i always thought the craze had spread from Soviet hipsters to the west

It is quite a stretch to rely Yugoslavia to Communist bloc. Yes, they named themselves a Socialist country, but they were opened to the West, travelled freely and so on. In fact, Tito was quite an enemy of Stalin in late 40s and Yugoslavia and USSR were pretty distanced since that time. Ironically, Serbia is under great influence of Moscow right now and serbs mostly support invasion of Ukraine.

Different scene here in Odessa, on the south, in 80s. Less striving for show-offs, more enjoying the simple pleasures of life, like wine, girls, sunshine, ...  Again, my town was a huge sea port, foreign trade hub, so we had access to Levis or Lee or Wrangler no problem.
