Happy jeans: TCBxSufu S40s WW2 contest thread

Recommended Posts

Blimey O’Reilly! The British & American forum dominance (and associated regional in-jokes) are a thing of the past.

Apologies for that awkward vote we cast mid-2016 old chaps. Hopefully water under the bridge and all that.

I hate to be that guy with the fit questions.. I've spent – what? 15 years on the sidelines here and always thought I'd know what to do when the time came, but no.

All my jeans be 34s, baby, but I can see from the way they fit the model at the start of this thread that it's going to be a bit of a.. stretch. I'm the same height as that guy, but somehow have an extra 20-odd kilos stashed away about my person.

If it means anything, SC47 in a 34 is my goldilocks fit (so much so that I busted out a fresh pair I'd been hoarding in the hope that it would make me forget about this competition, but again, no). I have at least three pairs of those (actually, one's a 33, which is still good), as well as a metric f___ tonne of other makes in those two waist sizes. Of all of them, LVC 54z is probably the snuggest fit in a 34x34 that still looks acceptable.

So I dunno, 36 seems the logical choice, but vanity and insecurity must be considered.. plus the fact that the few pairs of 36 I've accumulated because they were like $10 at the thrift store (hello, SC2014) look like absolute crap on me – but (again, thriftiness) I've never had the pleasure of shrinking 36 raws down to fit. I guess I could keep ramping up the temperature until they work. Hmm.

Have I just answered my own question?

when in doubt, measure your waist!

my method and my measures:

  1. Tcb suggest to everybody to buy the same size as on their 50s jeans
  2. My size in 50s is 36, mt natural waist where the jeans seat, measured snug with a tailor tape is 92 cms
  3. Tcb 50s come with a 91 waist and stretch to a 92 easily. jeans fit right, I can wear them without a belt, but they're not constricting by any means. *
  4. voilà

* I also confirm that I wore a 36 when my waist measured 95/96 cm, but the fit is better now of course.

As a comparison in my size 36 SC47 were a touch wider than the 50s, but still I wore a 36 on both cuts.
I think these S40S will be more snug than the Sc47, but not that snug to justify a size up, unless you've got a tight waist fit on those canes.

Hope this helps.

hey, can we get TCB to hem the jeans to a specific washed length?  I dont see that option anywhere on the page, nor at checkout.  Im sure this was addressed somewhere is the last 14 pages...sorry :)

I was thinking this same thing. I gave a length but I want to make sure its the washed length and not the raw length

@garden gnomes in space @nycsurfer530

Just shoot Ryo an email w/reference to ur order# & verify your hemming instructions, if you were not able to do so at check out ... e.g. “Please, hem at 32 inches post wash”.  If you opted the rigid version, they’ll make the allowance upon hemming.

I guesstimated shrinkage on mine, so I indicated to hem exactly at provided inseam measurement ...  ie, 34.5” rigid

Thanks, Volvo, that is indeed helpful. Turns out I'm the same as you around the waist, but my various pairs of jeans have accommodated my girth over time (that is, they all measure 18" across the waist when laid flat). S40S 34" raw measurement is spot on for me, so I'd imagine that the waist would stretch back to raw after some discomfort.. but not so sure about the rest of the top block. TCB measurements are all greater than that of my other jeans (as thighs etc do not stretch in my experience), but still.. do not want to look like ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag..

If you're about my natural waist size I would.deffo suggest 36! Don't rely on raw measurements. Please refer to one wash!

I have a lvc 54 in 30 and they are skinny for me. I have ordered tcb s40 in 30 ow. My other ww2 jeans was from samurai s3000vx in size 29. They were tight post soak, but they fit perfectly after few months of wear.

^ Worth noting that the special instructions box pictured above only shows if you select 'Add to Cart' on the product page.  If instead you click the 'Buy it Now' button, you're taken to shipping and payment info with no way to enter the desired inseam length.  In that case, it seems an email is the way to go.

Actually, I was thinking about this. I think you fit a 36 in these jeans. if they're anything like the 50s they won't stretch over 18 inches waist.
Also more on the SC47 comparo, I sold my pair last year because they were too loose. I'm 178 cm x 85 kilos right now same waist circumference as you, and pretty confident I could fit a 34 on the canes.

well, we shall see... ordered 36" rigid, hoping for 33" inseam after washing – I like a modest single cuff, if I'm wearing one at all

Count me in!
