3Sixteen ST-120x Slim Tapered - Shadow Selvedge - 8 month project

So.............. first post.

Thought it would be fun to document every month of the journey of my 3Sixteen 120x shadow selvedge jeans.

I tried this pair once before for 6 months before having to admit they were too small and were in fact, never going to stretch the way I'd been told they would by the shop.

Hmm........

So I'm trying again a size up - even these at 31" (I'm a 32 normally) are pretty darn tight still even after the 1st month of wearing)

Anyway... they're OK if I'm standing up!

So, I started wearing them around Christmas and it's the beginning of Feb now so, one month has passed.

First pics of what they look like new, then my pics of 1 month of wear. I'll update every month that passes for 8 months before they get their first cold soak!

I'll be wearing them every day, all day, but nothing crazy like sleeping in them ;)

I'm carrying a wallet in the back right pocket and a silver lighter in the front "watch" pocket. This should add some nice detailing over the months.

OK, February 2018's wear n' tear:

These f**kers are still uncomfortable when I sit, in particular after dinner! I would say they have NOT stretched in the waist at all in 2 months so... unlikely they will. I would say, with these 3Sixteen 120s... if you are a 32" waist, try on a 32" and if it's a good fit.. maybe just get your size! I wish I had tried on 32" before going an inch down to 31" on the promise they would stretch by an inch (or maybe I am fat now and in fact a 33" waist and didn't realize... : \  )

Well, that was a short-lived project - sitting cross-legged on my floor, trying very hard to put my shoes on when this happened:

3Sixteen, are frankly, SHIT.

As are the shop who sold them to me, refused responsibility for (mis)-advising me on the correct size, and instead said it was my fault because sitting on the floor to put on shoes is "unusual" in their opinion and that these jeans aren't built to withstand that kind of pressure! Truly pathetic on both counts.

I sell 3sixteen at work and have never had a pair split like that.

I would also not advise anyone to size down on the ST cut. True to size for a slim fit or even size up one on the waist if the thighs and rise are too tight. typically you get .5" stretch on that fabric after around 30 wears. However not enough, in my opinion, to size down. If you are a true 32" I'm actually amazed that you managed to fit into a 31"

To be fair to 3sixteen, it sounds like you wear given a pair of jeans that were too tight for you. Even well-constructed jeans will split if the fabric is under constant pressure.

Er i'd be more worried about the shops comment that these jeans are not built to withstand pressure of sitting on floor to put on shoes? wtf.

I know right? It sort of left me a little speechless too.

Thanks for sharing. You probably sized down based on their advice and that maybe the cause. May I ask what did they cost?

They cost me £240. That's $327 USD at time of writing this. Yes - it's the second time I bought from this shop - first time they sold me a 30" pair for my 32" waist (they were out of stock of 31" that time, hmmm) needless to say that was agony and I gave up after 7 months. This time I tried again, they said 31" was correct. Then this happened. The first time they let me buy some other item at cost to make up for it slightly. This time they just recommended me a denim tailor who might be able to sew it up (!) but basically said it was my fault for the "unusual way I tie my shoelaces"

It's probably time for you to pick up a pair of PBJ or TCB or anything else you fancy at that $330 price point. So many options.

If I ever buy raw denim again, I think I'l give Ironheart a go. They seemed to fit really nicely from the first try.

I could have bought 3 pairs of Nudie jeans (my usual jeans) for the price of those 3Sixteens that lasted 3 months. The Nudie would have lasted 5 years, combined.

Yeah iron heart is nice. The thing with 100% cotton jeans is they are more fragile than stretched denim if one is going to size down. And a slim tapered 100% cotton jeans will never be as comfy as skinny stretched jeans with elastane...that's why during our grandfathers time all of them wear boxy and baggy jeans!
