It's a Christmas miracle!

Please excuse the weird camera angle and wedgie, caught the last bit of sunlight and I'm about to hit the road to Houston so I wanted to throw these in the wash so they'll be dry when I get back in a couple of days. Glad to be a part of this contest. :D

we were busy moving into our second home on a small Scottish island over the past few days and had friends and family arrive for the holidays as well...

after lots of Ikea shopping and logistical nightmares, we had a few days of merry flatpack building!

Close to my parents house lies the old fire station. It was built in 1873 and was still in use until 1939. Now they're planing to refurbish it as a part to our city hotel.

After my walk I've mainly taking it easy, introducing Stranger Things for the family, drinking coffee and reading Blueblooded.

Lovely festive updates guys and gals!

How beautiful is the peasant Swedish countryside?

I'm starting now to feel better after my epic 5 days long flu.

Went to have the usual massive Xmas family lunch but still was a zombie and therefore I have not major picture updates. This is what I have, little Volvo doing a very Italian thing, sleeping with a dead horse head!

Season's greetings, all. Some great pics coming in from places far and near.

We also made it out to the water for an x-mas stroll. The Atlantic looking pretty placid heading toward low tide (@ Folly Beach, SC, USA):

Exploring other parts of the "low country" outside of the downtown Charleston peninsula (lots of tidal marshes, swamps, inlets, estuaries and the like). This region was not only prime real estate for growing rice during the colonial and antebellum eras, but also where major indigo cultivation started in the American colonies circa 1730-40. That said, these enterprises and many of the horticultural techniques developed relied on slaves and their labor and know-how.

We're also discovering that even unplanned, casual exploration tends to land you at historic sites tied to either the American Revolutionary war or, as in this case, the American Civil War:

A little update...

We went to church on the evening of the 24th - more out of curiosity as we are new to the island community and for carols’ singing.

Made ourselves a little improvised Xmas dinner after our cooker arrived but turned out to be of the wrong type!

The story is that on this island the power supply is independent and set up & administered by the island community. It’s a combination of water power, solar panels and wind power with a limit of 5 kW/hr per household. The consequence is that most dual fuel cookers won’t do - so our cooker will have to go back and get exchanged. Luckily, the neighbours lend us a spare one...

Xmas turned out nice & cosy as could be with all the improvised set-up, new & incomplete furniture.

During the course of the evening we had a discussion about Xmas traditions and an interesting article about the origin of Xmas and some of its more commercial aspects...
