Orslow

Hello, I found orSlow 105 rigid on the End website in both size 4 and 5. Does anyone know if the rigid denim is sanforized or does it need a soak before wearing and if so how much can expect it to shrink? I'm usually a 36 in most, which is what the End is claiming to be a size 4. I'm wondering if I should go for a size 5 in case they do need a good soaking. Thanks in advanced for any help.

@erockisalive yeah I saw so what are the End doing putting size 5 as a 38? Kind of makes me hesitate on buying as I’m a healthy 36.

But I’m definitely not a 38 waist

Does anybody know about the fabric on the 107 jeans, if it is loose or tight weave? Now that I realize my PBJs are loose weave and keep stretching even though I am just sitting on my ass, it's important to know about the fabric.

Also, their "One Wash" is simply raw/rigid denim washed once and they haven't tried to fade/give it a look?

No way is Orslow mainstream. It may have more stockists than other brands, but that doesn't mean anything. Some brands may only decide to have very limited stockists for whatever reasons, while others do not.

The denim is normal weave? There is give in the denim, and waist can stretch easily enough

It might just be that Orslow has decided to have an international presence whereas most Japanese brands seem to be content with their domestic market and international sales is just an afterthought.

Regarding Orslow items, I have the 105 denim, fatigues, army shirt and the vintage fit chambray. I probably wouldn’t have picked these up at their regular price but as was said earlier these can be had for less during sales periods. I’ve picked these up at 40-60% discounts and think these have been good purchases.

I've read the 5 pages on this thread but I didn't get what's special about Orslow. They have stubby fabric or their fits are unique?

You’ll get it one day; most of the slubbiness or details that you think makes a pair of jeans unique, is actually what is mainstream in the world of raw denim. There’s a reason most of the seasoned veterans don’t gravitate towards crazy colored denims or extreme heavy weight denim, or slubs like a Persian rug. These are the things that make the average person stop and say, “Well that’s a really different pair of jeans”. This stuff gets gimmicky after awhile and that’s when you start seeing and appreciating the subtleties.

I think a 5 would be good for you, based on my size 5 one wash 105's measuring right at 36".  They do stretch however, so keep that in mind but i would not advocate a 4 as that would be too snug in my opinion.

my guess is the size 5 38" is the raw version, will shrink to a 36" or so

Agree with the comments above... Orslow has some great gear not least the army inspired garb - the sateen fatigues I had were fantastic quality. However I'm not a fan of the 2 year wash jeans etc they throw into their mix... FWIW would prefer if they dropped that...

@garden gnomes in space Thanks, I spoke to an online sales rep and she said the sizing was actually 36” for a size 5 not 38”. Hopefully they will correct their website. But I had another look at the pics and I’m not sure if it’s even selvedge denim as it looks like regular stitching on the inside of the leg sleeve. Might explain why the inseam is so long?

the 105 and 107 are selvedge.  The "Dad jeans" are selvedge denim I believe but not cut with the selvedge outseam.

I think that’s what I like about sufu that folks steer clear of gimmicks, overdyed/double indigo/22oz heavy weight denim etc. Minimalism is the key to life. If you think about it, the Levi’s ( the real Levi’s) never produced anything with gimmicks. I have stayed away from super heavy weight denim and any other gimmicky stuff from the beginning.

However, there could be some genuinely interesting stuff out there like the pair of PBJ I just picked up. I love the feel of the fabric and I don’t even know if it’s called slubby or something else. It’s almost like hand woven on looms and it has there inconsistencies and irregularities everywhere. Other than that, it’s very understated as a pair of jeans.

I am resisting picking up a pair of orslow 107. Which sites usually offer discounts on this brand ?

EndClothing, but check on rakuten, they are at the same price at retail than when END have sales on them

I am just confused why is the brand being marketed as mainstream/mass produced. It is available on sites like End clothing that usually sell brands like Edwin etc. And niche sites that sell raw denim don't seem to carry the brand (Self Edge, RivetandHide, Okayamadenim). I am not questioning whether the brand is truly artisan or not. Just voicing my thoughts.

Your benchmark that because a brand is carried at End that it is somehow mass produced or mainstream is way off.

End carries Engineered Garments, Wtaps, Nhbd and Visvim would you say these are mainstream or mass produced brands? I wouldn't.

Orslow is so far removed from mass-produced as you can get. Their name and company motto literally imply that they have slowed down production to create a quality garment. Indeed everything they make is done on old 1930s-40s sewing machines to create details that modern machines can no longer replicate.

Raw denim sites such as Self Edge and Rivet and Hide tend to specialise in raw denim. orSlow doesn't offer much raw denim in their catalogue.  Okayama denim specialises in denim brands from Okayama. orSlow is not from Okayama so it wouldn't make sense for them to stock it.

One wash from Orslow is denim they have once washed to get most of the shrink out of it. Their distressed denim is sold as used, one -year or two-year washes.

size 5 orslow 105's, after warm wash tumble dry BiG style

W: 36"

FR:12.5"

BR: 17"

Thigh: 13.5"

Inseam. 32.5"

Leg Opening: about 8.25-8.5"

I have seen measurements for the same size saying thigh is 12", even 11.5".  Shameful

When I see a 12" or 11.5" thigh measurement with specs like the rest of what you measured I just assume the thigh measurement is wrong, or, in the very least, and to be diplomatic about it, that they are measuring thigh in a very specifically limited way.

Now, on the other hand, front rise should be a much more straight forward measurement to take, one would assume. So how Kafka gets 11" front rise on a size 5 105 one wash baffles me.

I’m with you. I don’t understand how a shop can’t just double check and post accurate measurements instead of just going with what is floating around. I can only guess they do it some weird fucked up way like not including the waistband in the rise and measuring the thigh 4” down.

Anyone have BiG measurements for a pair of 107 in size 2?

I'll get you them tomorrow after work (that's if no one else has managed to do it before I do)

Right so this is measurements BIG style for Orslow 107 in size 2. Bare in mind I have worn these for a month or so, so i'm pretty sure waist has stretched.

Waist: 32.6in
FR: 10.4in
BR: 14in
U.thigh: 11.2in
Knee: 8.5in
LO: 7.1in

this piece to me sums up orslow: softly understated

[hilariously, found listed as a type III at end... end are surely paying attention to details - not]

their denim jackets (pleated and chore) and military pants are what catch the eye for me

i have done a quick look around: can't see anything other than size 2 on a surface rakuten check

i remember seeing it a while (few years?) back on superdenim and not picking it up then [it went stupid cheap on sale and everything... regrets, i have a few...]

i resurrect it in response to question about what is special about orslow

i think its model number is 03-6001 - labelled as a front pleated blouse (i believe it combines the lighter 9oz denim of earliest denim jackets with the pared down elements of the wwII jacket, hence its softer look...)

happy hunting

edit: think I found a size 3 here...

Just picked up a pair of one-wash 105s in size 3, not sure if this is an older lot or what not but the model number on the orSlow tag is No. 01-1050-81K

Measurements (BiG Style):

W: 34" Fr: 11.5" Br: 15" UpperThigh: ~12" Inseam: ~31.5" Lo: 7.5-7.75"

Waist relaxed not measured aligned is 33" which is similar to the measurements on many websites

@Niro I believe you own some shirts from Orslow. I am trying to add an Orslow U.S. Army shirt to my cart at super denim together with an impulse LVC 1966. the sizing seems weird as 5X is mentioned as 23 (46) chest. That seems to be the correct size for me but when I look at another shirt by the same brand and this is also a U.S. Army shirt, 5X is mentioned as 24 (48) chest.

Here's the one I want to buy https://www.superdenim.com/row/orslow-u-s-army-shirt-army-green-8045.htmlOrslow U.S. Army Shirt in Green

Here's the exact same shirt in Denim but different sizing https://www.superdenim.com/row/orslow-2-year-wash-denim-u-s-army-shirt.htmlOrslow U.S. Army Shirt in Denim

What's your experience with their shirt sizing?

Their fit is not standardised. It varies from shirt to shirt. If you are a size 2 in one shirt piece, you might not neccessarily be the same size in another shirt piece.
