Haven put up their recap of the trunk show with some photos.

Also salterelli, those raffia Virgils are in the first photo I posted on the first page. They are using the same triangle motif as the hats on some of them.

They are re-releasing the black distressed denim (which is really a grey) probably because it didnt sell through last fall. If you want the dark black denim, they occasionally do the CMYK black which was released this spring and maybe will do another spot release.

Wondering what the hell these boots are. They kind of look like the brigadier, what with the dainite sole and the fabric wrapped heel but they feature a back heel panel and what looks like a toe cap. Don't remember seeing these in the look book so I'm a bit curious.

Any info on this shirt ?

IMG_5732_nujl4l.jpg

The shirt is made up of two parts, first the front striped section is a typical shirting fabric and the rest of the shirt is made of cotton jersey, the same as the t-shirts. Also the sleeve as cuffs like a button down with working buttons.

Those actually drop this fall: ncf cap boot

Also in bison leather

Awesome, thank you! I quite like those actually, especially the look of the bison leather (and the new fabric inlay).

I think there's little disputing their quality. It's just the designs seem to be getting a bit out there sometimes-- Native American shoe and hat logos?! -- and those are often the signature pieces or at least the ones that get the most attention. I tend to go for their simpler, more basic stuff that gets released without the fanfare.

The other problem is of course the pricing. It's already pretty steep in Japan. I don't know how average people can afford to pay non-Japanese retail prices. Is one of their leather jackets worth $5000? It's good stuff, but probably not. Hiroki still seems to be raking the money in though.

I think the 10-13 years when it was this luxe, revisionist version of the 70s backpacker aesthetic were the best, melding his background in sportswear/sneakers with his interest in vintage or "folk" cultures. The current lean of the collections and especially the new pieces are too clean and often kitschy (as opposed to the earnestness that drives the otaku repro brands to make similar decisions) and lack the contemporary functionality of previous seasons or just misuse it (gore-tex Mies).

The mainstays like bags, most footwear, denim jackets, and coveralls are still being offered in interesting forms, but how many Vis heads need another pair of this or that?

I only have a couple things I'm still looking out for, but I'll continue to watch future collections to see if my interest is reignited; I wouldn't call it dead, just having a rough transition.

I do miss the functionality aspect of earlier Visvim collections. They were one of the first to combine denim and goretex, for example, or putting in windstopper on their jackets, using ballistic codura nylon, specialized insulators, and probably a number of other things. They still do that to an extent, but it's nowhere near what it was and doesn't seem to be one of those points driving the brand anymore. Have they added any new fabrics even like sea island or giza cotton, harris tweed or the like in recent collections?

That's all really too bad too, because I think the use of unique (and branded) fabrics and materials was one of their differentiating points. I think now their emphasis is much more on treatment of fabrics. It's not a bad thing in itself, but coupled with the kitschy design choices and crazy high prices I would say they're losing some of the allure they used to have.

I actually prefer the less-streetwear Visvim. The brand has softened up a bit and it seems as though Hiroki is having a lot more fun creating and experimenting especially when it comes to new and unique fabrics or dye techniques. Also, the kitschiness of the designs is one of the more endearing parts of the collections for me. It's not something I always buy but I really enjoy looking at those pieces. And when there's a good one, say, like the aloha duke shirts from SS15, I'm all for it.

Like you said above Stad, I too tend to gravitate toward the more low key items save for a fun piece here or there. But I would be lying if I didn't say I was tempted by things like the hand drawn coverall from this AW season or the skagway with patches.

There are still so many cool pieces in each collection and I am always stoked to wear the pieces I have each and every day.

Hi Guys,

Need a quick help from you guys. I have won an auction on this pair.

http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/r140144467

Won the item in question and from my research, it seem like a fake pair of visvim.

Could anyone help me ID this pair and let me know? I have base this and another pair i have seen on another website

http://world.taobao.com/item/6989594304.htm?spm=a312a.7700714.0.0.DYwBbZ#detail

The zip seem totally different at all. This make me think the pair i won might be fake but would need more help in ID it.

Thanks for the help!
