Washing machine on the the shortest cycle. You'll never look back. Messed about with all those hand washing rituals years ago - doesn't make a blind bit of difference.

And all the 'specialised' denim detergents. Good old non-bio will do.

Thanks for your opinion. Oh I always hand wash the first couple times. but after that it's always washing machine in delicate with low spin and regular detergent (oolite or dark cloth one). Sometimes the dryer if I want crinkly denim or need to shrink it a little bit more.

This guide was more oriented on the way to do a hand wash if needed or if you need to wash with the goal of retaining more indigo than a machine wash. Special detergent are not necessary yeah.

Yeah, depends a lot on how important holding in heat really is. When I lived in Montreal, choosing a denim jacket as a mid-layer rather than wool or down would've seemed plain silly, but at this point if I had a denim jacket and I had a coat and I needed a little extra warmth I wouldn't think twice about throwing one on over the other.

Anybody conceal carry with raw denim? Wondering how prominent this holster fade is going to be in my denim lol. Hopefully doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb.

Probably two simple options to choose from for avoiding that problem.

This is like the one place on the internet I seem to avoid banter like this so if you could keep it to yourself that'd be great, thanks.
I don't give two shits about your stance on guns, honestly, I just come here to talk about denim!

Perhaps the weirdest thing about his post is the content offset with a picture of The Smiths as his avatar. You know how gangsta The Smiths were right???

While we're on the subject of Controversial Topics, maybe I can bring up a subject that I don't think I've ever seen discussed on this thread. It's probably going to get me a hatestorm of negative rep from SuFu users not native to Superdenim, but here we go:

I don't get techwear at all. Yeah, we share a forum, but there is basically no overlap between the Superdenim guys in amekaji style clothes and techwear dudes who look like they're cosplaying as characters in Final Fantasy VII. I live in/near a large metropolitan area and I don't think I've ever seen a single person dressed like that in real life. Maybe Atlanta just isn't dark/dreary/rainy/cyberpunk enough. For that matter I don't remember the last time I got soaked enough by rain to think, "man, I wish all my clothes were waterproof tech-shell!"

I get why you'd want technical fabrics if you climb mountains, work as a surveyor, or something like that, but I get the impression that hardly anybody wearing these clothes (at least on internet forums) actually does that. It strikes me more as an elaborate costume built around the idea of "what happens if it suddenly starts pouring down rain while I'm jumping from building to building to escape Agent Smith?"

I dabbled in some streetwear-inspired stuff a few years ago but quickly ditched it. I realized that I really hate wearing artificial materials, and "technically advanced" ones haven't changed my mind. So much of our glowing rectangle-oriented modern lives feels fake and synthetic, so I find something very pleasant and "real" about wearing stuff made from cotton, wool, and leather that has a natural and broken-in feel.

I know the "Railroad And Construction" look has been justifiably bashed over the years, and I'll always think the DenimBro look of "1890s Gold Prospector Cosplay" is pretty silly/ironic, but the more casual looks of most members here are well-composed and versatile, and closer to the Clutch Magazine sort of style that combines Japanese-curated vintage Americana with a tinge of old-world refinement. We are all super nerds for our denim obsession, but most of what's worn here these days doesn't look like a costume or like it's trying to get attention. I enjoy looking pretty normal to everybody except denim geeks who recognize a Flat Head shirt or whatever.

Oh yeah, one last thing, it really annoys me that there is a store called "Superdenim."

I'm a runner, and as much as I appreciate the aesthetics of the classic (grey) cotton shirt and shorts, or grey sweatpants, if you've ever run more than a few kilometres on a hot summer day, you'll know why technical gear has its place. COTTON WILL FUCK YOU UP.

But yeah, tech gear should only be worn when it has a purpose or you live in a city where you could legit drop everything and go do a mountain climb or sea kayak at a moment's notice, like Vancouver.

@Cold Summer The first thing I thought of upon reading your post was...William Gibson. I think he occupies the two degrees of separation between the superdenim world and the supertechwear world. The techwear crowd could be running around in his sci-fi/cyberpunk world just as easily as in the Matrix. Meanwhile, some of us are running around in his line of Buzz Rickson's gear (which, as you probably know, emerged alongside a character in Pattern Recognition that wore a fictional black Buzz MA-1). In fact, you could probably make an pretty reasonable argument that the military repro stuff, especially deck jackets and flight jackets are techwear's forbearers, in a way.

Also, I really enjoy seeing how insanely expensive all that acronym and veilance stuff is and feeling much much better about the relative cost of my humble denim and workwear collection.

Yeah when I wrote that, I did think about nylon stuff like flight jackets. I'm still not crazy about these sorts of things to wear personally, but I do think they look cool. I guess I think the old-fashioned inspired aesthetic offsets the synthetic fabrics to some degree.

Speaking of costumes, i've been seeing dudes on IG sporting ponchos and big silly hats. Is this a thing?

I have this weird, controversial idea that tec wear dudes should all be athletic and buff.

It's strange to me to have skinny and unfit guys running around in tec. Why bother optimising your clothes if your body is no good?

Cold Summer, thanks for posting what I’ve been thinking about lately.

I hadn’t paid attention to it in a while, but it came to my attention that so much of what is “modern”, from the schools of thought of Gropius, Bauhaus, van der Rohe, the International, and Brutalist, etc was based on the idea of “man as machine” and is truly de-humanizing and atomizing, and in many ways “modern” clothing styles are part of that process. And is anyone really comfortable with a world like that anymore? So, I’m glad we have what we have in this area and can keep something more humanistic alive, even if it’s through clothing.

Yeah, but why wear 'workwear' if you're not 'working' ;)

Can't become buff if you don't start working out no!

True, but also, work can be defined in many ways!

Let's all go organic and topless. Just denim pants.

I think my style started deviating away from a workwear emphasis after I started working in an office. I feel damn silly wearing heavy ass boots to type away in a cubicle all day.
