Oh my 36 shrank to a 34

@edmond I have three pairs of W36 60s and none of them shrank that much, Did you boil them in a kettle or what?

They all measure between 92.5 and 93 cm BIG. TCB chart says 93. Waist aligned and measured x2, this is TCB method to measure waist. I've never used a dryer.

I suggest to rely on TCB online shop chart, it's good and it's after shrinkage. A minimum variation on measurements has to be considered because the fabric is weaved on very old looms, so weave irregularity can make a difference, but that's pretty normal for all the jeans discussed in this forum. @marcusV2 dunno where you saw raw measurements, but they can be misleading.

The waist measurement on the 60s is slightly north of TTS, because the jeans are meant to sit on the hips rather than on the waist. Pay attention to the thigh, that's the key measurement.

Interesting... Sounds like I'm getting conflicting info. The raw measurements came from the Great Southern Denim Co site. Emailed them last night before bed and woke to their response:

about 1.5-2” is about normal with these. The fabric is fairly forgiving so they’ll stretch with wear also, so if they’re tight post wash you won’t have any issues.

Good call about the thigh, though. Ordering these would be a huge gamble, but that price. Argh.

Thanks for the input, gents.

^ @marcusV2 the measurement I wrote are post wash and after a few hours of wear. I just measured them again today after reading Ed's post, none of the jeans has been washed and stored away, they've all been worn since the last wash.

I appreciate your help, Volvo! Since you played devil's advocate so well, I took the plunge -- I'll check back in in 10-12 days! Thanks, again!

I didn't realize the Australian currency is worth 74% of US currency so I too have 60s on the way. They're a size up from my 50s but I think I'll enjoy having the extra room especially with them being a slimmer fit.

As of late I'ìve spent a bit of time chatting on Instagram with one of the Japanese Tcb fanboys, @naoharu5 check, him out. He's quite fluent with English.

He's a bit of a laundromat wiz, very into all sort of washing vodoos related to fades.

I ended trying out a few wee thingies he suggested and using the local laundromat and dryer for the first time.

He applies a bit of starch after wash, before dryer on major crinkling points like hem, traintracks, coinpocket. Go check out his IG handle and see what he does.

Very little to show so far, but here we go.

TCB 60s III, washed again to get rid of all shrink. Here's a wee bit of thunder bolt shape coming up. Unfortunately nothing major to show on the hem, the jeans lost the OG chainstitch and I had it redone by Mr Handy, he did a good job but nothing compares to the TCB hems...

TCB seaman jumper, I think the fabric looks great after some washes.

I plan to keep washing the new 60s to the laundromat and see what happens with them. They shrank a ton more, luckily I succeeded to stretch them back.

i find that the 60 jeans denim will stretch after abuse and prolonged usage.  live in the jeans, sweat in them, clean the toilets with them...heck sleep with them.  you want the fades right?

I feel the same way about the 60's, they can pretty much take anything and love a vigorous wash and tumble dry. For me there is no real fade magic, just beat the hell out of them and wash them.

Edit to add fades:IMG_1115.thumb.JPG.dc7f33bf6ef10c3e5c4cdf9a39006ad3.JPG

Thunderbolt is there haha. Apparently that's a mark of having used the dryer a good bit, and a classic feature of 60s cuts. My old pair doesn't have it and man it had been beaten hard for years, but never dried in a drier.

It's a cool little detail that I like. Resolute 710s produces some pretty amazing thunderbolt fades too...

let me repost here the 60s of Nao San, for an extra bit of laundromat porn!

I guess the magic is the dryer, it does wonders for the crinkles on the 60's and no leather patch to worry about getting puckered and destroyed.

Do you use max heat on the dryer (70°c)? I've done 55 last time but the jeans were still a bit damp after 15 mins, I was worried the hot dryer could ruin the denim...

I wouldn't worry about the dryer wrecking the denim. As long you are sure they are not going to shrink to a point that you can't wear them, you will be fine. I've thrown my samurai's in the dryer multiple times and never had a problem.

I understand completely the use of a dryer if it's part of your usual washing routine. But this "He applies a bit of starch after wash, before dryer on major crinkling points like hem, traintracks, coinpocket" is a bit far fetched. What's next? Sandpaper?

IMHO - starch & dryer is "fair" & old-school doping, much like espresso in road bike racing...

it reflects how jeans would have been cared for in the 50's and 60's.

Well to each his own as they say.. I happen to like very much Nao's fades, he just enhances some features of the jeans. I see it as Foxy.
I like those fades details he gets, and all my faded jeans lack a bit of that (none of my traintracks are nearly as good as those), so I'm keen to give it a try, especially on the 60s jeans, as the fabric itself seem to call for it, look how it reacts... He doesn't wash as often as others, though, so the jeans have a really compelling mix of contrast and texture.

True, I'm only speaking for myself of course. But what are the rules on the upcoming tcb contest or dwc contest regarding this and if there are some rules how are they enforced? Or does it really matter how the denim evolution has taken place as long as the end result gets the votes?

I don't see it as an unfair procedure to be honest.

I won't do any of this on the TCB20s anyway as the 20s/30s denim doesn't call for it imo, it's a much looser weave and softer denim compared to the 60s, I think it will have to be worn hard and with minimum necessary washes for the first three months to achieve a bit of contrast. The 60s fade fast and there is no concern whatsoever to get a bit of contrast on them, they're also a slim fit so it's much easier to get defined whiskers. Anyhoo I wouldn't care at all if others want to do their vodoo practices to the denim!

transparency, I guess...

anything goes, as long as there is full transparency/disclosure regarding "special treatments" so that the judges can take them into account.
