October 2015 Update

 

Went on down to the Flat Head event at Corlection last night and for their release of their collar jeans with the RJB denim. Officially called the "Core Me" Corlection x Flat Head x RJB denim. Its a slimmer cut than my current TFH 3009 which is exactly what i was looking for in my next pair of jeans. The denim is simply amazing, the cut is a combo of the 3009/3002 with the top block from the 3009 and a slim leg opening from the 3002. Its perfect, plus the flashy features like the turquoise arcs and chain stitch set these apart from other pairs i've seen. 

 

The highlight of the night was meeting Kobayashi-san (the owner and creator of flat head) and having him give a talk about the various flat head products. The flat head and rub hawaiian shirts are insanely gorgeous and need to be held in real life to appreciate. He signed my jeans and a belt which adds to the coolness of the jeans for me 

 

I also ended up winning a flat head belt...a studded white belt that would retail for $600 AUD. I want to eventually be able to pull it off but I'm not sure i'll be able too...might have to see if some of the guys at Corlection want to swap for a different flat head belt or something...

 

Anywho, here's the 3009 update. Its had two more washes so its sitting at something like 8 or 9 washes at this point. I also tried my hand at a quick sashiko patching on the back pocket...it was super difficult to manoeuvre the needle inside the pocket. In the end its somewhat sloppy but i love how it has turned out anyways! it makes the back pocket pop again since my arc are pretty much gone at this point...also wearing the new jeans in the last pic.

Kobayashi-san sure can talk about the flat head, it was nice to see how passionate the owner of this brand really is. It makes me appreciate what love and effort for denim goes into everything the flat head makes. Beer was needed to stay cool in the smallish shop.

If anyone is interested this is the belt i won, if anyone believes in me that i could pull this off please respond with positive vibes....Its not exactly this belt, i found it earlier on rakuten but i can't find it now (typical). It is all white with red jewels, and says THE FLAT HEAD in iron studs...

Great updates all round guys, after a few health and family health issues I'm starting to be able to spend a little more time actually participating in the contest now (thankfully), rather than just viewing and answering queries/ administering requests.

 

I'm grateful for all the participants who are keeping this rolling with some incredible denim updates, the variety this time round is fantastic.

How do you like those Kamikaze's? I was considering picking some up last year but went with Sammies instead.

Went with a size 32 instead of the 31 I have worn in my Sammmies. But they have been super tight in the top block even though I only soaked the lower part. They are starting to finally become comfortable after 70 days of wear, do not know what will happen when I need to wash them They are very tight in the thighs and are supposed to be straight I think, but almost a slight bootcut. I really loved the S5000 cut but I am slowly starting to warm up to the Kamikazes.

Went apple picking and also picked up 60 odd lbs of utility apples plus some specific heirlooms to make myself a personal batch of cider. This is kimball fruit farm, one of my favorite orchards in the area.

the apples were great!

and so were the cider donuts!

The next day I pressed them all and got around 10 gallons of juice that I mixed with a few of pounds of local honey. This is just a personal batch that I am making for myself and my wife. We like to give them out as presents around Christmas time for family and friends.

There is a huge abandoned apple orchard a bit under a kilometer from my place and I've always been thinking about making cider with some of the apples that are left around there (even after people and animals come through and take what they want, there are still lots left over). What other steps are involved in making cider besides what you've shown here? I'd be really interested to see a short run through of what you do in your shop if you ever have the time.

Here's a quick edit that some friends and I filmed last night.

This was the first time I fully stepped back on my board as earlier this month I fell and hit my head pretty hard which resulted in a concussion and whiplash.

I worked up the courage to get back on and it turned out to be good; still taking it slow though.

Glad to hear they're back.  But, we're all in trouble again. You were leading the pack months ago, and I don't think many of us have gained much ground!  On track for 16 months of wear over the two year contest, and I'm going to need every bit of it!
