Door to Door job trying to switch people from one phone service provider to another one. I only did this job for a week.

The only interesting thing that happened was when a lady offered me sex. She said "I never get to see my boyfriend. He's a truck driver and he always comes home at 3 or 4 in the morning. I only get to say hi to him." ...and then some how she changes the subject and says that " her bed is broken"

I thought this sort of a thing only happened in movies. ;)

was she cute?

One time I worked for a guy rebuilding bulkheads along private properties on the intercoastal waterway. Used to go into town and load rock from swimming pools that had been broken up and removed and haul them back to the jobs then load them into concrete molds filled with rebar. Christ it was backbreaking work.

Bartender at the SHITTIEST BAR EVERRR in etobicoke, hahaha. 8 hour shifts, $20 in tips if it was a good day. The place sat like, 9 people tops and they were all old and crazy. One guy always made me interview people he didn't recognize to make sure they weren't secret agents from the government who were going to bust him for lying about his disability. This other dude would always come in an either play the "erotic" games on that video game thing in the corner or else switch the channel to Baby Blue when it was later at night.

Did I mention it paid $6 an hour? Isn't that illegal or something?

the worst job i've had is always the one im working currently

but in all honesty ive done some shitttt

door to door sales of coupon books

retail for a store catering to senior citizens

2 call center positions

sweatshop steez cleaning these machines

ki23e1b76hd-b.jpg

no AC in summer heat, surrounded by strange chemicals, and dust and dirt like you wouldn't believe.

these machines took about a day or two to clean depending on size, and had thousands of individual needles and parts that had to be manually put back into the machine one by one

oh add in an asshole hick boss

yeah they produce knits.. but shit comes out by the yard. Think of all those ugly christmas sweaters and argyle they sell to old people..

They get programmed and stitch the patterns automatically, using 5-6 colors of yarn.

I basically had to clean em with an air gun, and chunks of dust would fly out. That plus washing out the needles in metal cleaner , rinsing, and manually inserting the needles back in. Worst part was when there was jacks and needles, and you had to slide em together in the proper fashion one by one.. like this

Thank god i worked with a good friend.

made in canada sweatshops smh.. 80% of people working there were fobby chinese people..

Retail at a Sears Outlet.

We had to sell some of the most disgusting**, damaged items imagineable, and due to Sears ridiculous pricing scheme, they were a whopping 10% off regular retail. 90% of the time you could get the same items, brand new, from the store at the same price, delivered and installed for free. Our installation and delivery cost around 200 dollars, and 99% of the time they damaged the item beyond repair.

We would go entire days without sales. Our daily budget? 15,000 dollars.

I was terminated as part of their restructuring*.

*read, complete and utter failure, bankrupt by 2009.

**We had a washing machine completely infested with cockroaches on the sales floor at one point.

One summer desperate for cash and willing to take any job I could find I worked for a day in a Ham factory vacuum packing joints of meat. Aside from the strong odor of rotting pork which filled the entire warehouse, one of the employees who I was working next to had tried to commit suicide a week earlier and the full 8 hours I spent packing were filled by the other workers constant cries of 'careful with that knife he might try and top hisself' over the sound of a badly tuned and tinny radio whacked up to full volume. When I got home it took 2 hours of scrubbing to get the rotting ham smell from under my fingernails. i did not return to pick up my wages. Worst job ever.

read tim o'brien's the things they carried, there's a scene in there about a pig slaughtering factory that sounds very similar...

On paper, this sounds like the worst: janitor at a nursing home one summer.

But I truly loved it. Put on the Walkman then scrub the toilets of elderly folks. No one bothered me all day long

One weird experience, though: an old dude showed me a photo he personally took of Hitler in the early 30s. It was pretty cool. But then he misplaced the photo or something, and accused me of stealing it. Which of course I hadn't.

Anyway, loved that job.

I worked as a dietary aid in an old folks home for a summer. It sucked.

12 hours shifts (7am to 7pm)

I was on casual so I sometimes would go a whole week without working and other weeks I'd get calls asking me to come in at 6:30 almost every morning. Since I was new there I got the shitty shift which involved two people doing the work most other shifts had three people to do. Everything was timed down to five minutes so if you fell behind at all everything got thrown out of order. I worked on the only three floors that didn't have air conditioning so the heat was brutal. Most of the old folks were nice but some were ass holes. I was one of only two guys who worked on the floors in the entire complex so old ladies hit on me constantly. It was just a bad job all around. The only good thing was that it was unionized so I got paid well.

  • 5 weeks later...

i worked at a candy shop that made their own fudge..

it wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't given me a key on my second day at work and expected me to be able to close by myself on a weekend when the store closes at midnight.. you need at least an hour to get all the shit done (sweeping floor, windexing displays, counting money/cashwrap shit, replenishing, garbage, washing fudged pans/utensils, etc.) and the bart closes at 1am and i don't drive so..

i quit.
