I was dicking around photoshop, and I wanted to create a web design. I think I what I did was alright for my first time; critique would be much appreciated. The only thing that is totally pissing me off is how I would go about creating it... help would be appreciated as well.

that shouldn't be hard to do imo. I can help you with it if you'd like though I'm sure there are some actual web designers on here.

on your blog you want it flash-based. I barely know how to do that. not a big fan of flash sites either.

Yeah, after thinking about it for a while, flash-based is scratched out as an option.

DÃœM, help with this would be awesome. I really do not know where to start with designing this. Dreamweaver maybe? I have Dreamweaver 8.

more grid practice. awhile back I said I'd make a poster for every I movie I liked since that point in time. I didn't end up doing it, but this was the first movie on the list. was too lazy to open photoshop so I resized it in Preview, excuse the jpeggyness

how many columns are in your grid?

the 'History' and 'All songs' written don't seem to be aligned right.

also when you have quotation marks you want to hang them, which means that they will sit in the gutter and the letters themselves will be on the column line. In Indesign you can do this with the 'Type > Story' window.

– I like it. Overall nice and clean execution, but I think you need to push it a little further/harder

– Somewhat awkward relationship between the tone of the image (serious, dark) and that of the copy (light, clever, wordy)

– Piece is unsure of itself: is it a typographic piece, or a photographic piece? It can be both, but the relationship between type/image needs to be resolved/explored further

– Adhering to typographic grid is one thing, but it doesn't have to be the end-all. Think about the relationship of type to page and type to image, and how you can manipulate those elements and their inter-relationships to convey/elicit an idea/emotion (e.g. urgency, stream of consciousness, dislocated thought, or whatever your message/idea happens to be).

For example, instead of line breaks, maybe try a version where the copy runs in a continuous stream:

----------------

HE WANTS HIM TO KILL THEM HE KILLS THEM INSTEAD HE THINKS

SHE KILLED HIM BUT HE'S BLOOD SIMPLE NOT DEAD SO HE KILLS

HIM HE THINKS HE KNOWS HE KILLED HIM HE WANTS TO KILL THEM

----------------

Even simple mods like removing the periods and tightening your leading can change the overall tone of the piece.

Have fun! :)

thanks , Anny. I'm definitely not done messing with it I just know I need to practice things like this and I'm having a hard time coming up with stuff to use. Movies have a lot of info for you to use so it negates and research and gives me free reign to fuck around with the design.

Commbat, the website mockup should be achievable with CSS

something like

* {

font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;

line-height: 12px;

color: white;

}

a:hover {

color: pink;

}

a: visited {

color: grey;

}

.photo {

float: left;

height: 500px;

width: 640px;

margin-left: 320px;

}

.photo img {

margin-bottom: 12px;

}

.nav {

float: left;

width: 640px;

margin-left: 100px;

}

.navpopupthing {

font-size: 7px;

border-left: 1px;

padding-left: 5px;

}

.title {

float: right;

width: 300px;

margin-right: 100px;

}

I think.

glazed teapot. i salt fired it with a blue black engobe. i was hoping for a more blackish brown color, and i'm not happy with this at all. I was going for a Yixing inspired teapot inspired by sparrows, so the blue glaze doesn't really tie it together but you win some you lose some... however, i hope this glaze grows on me. i do really like the teabowls, though. these pics don't really do the teapot much justice.

criticism, please!!

if you guys have never seen Yixing teapots, here are some of my favorites:

google others, they're one-cup teappots made in Yixing, China. this village basically only manufactures these slab-built mini sculptures. they're stunning.
