Best way to shrink a Tee shirt.

I Don't know if this belongs here or if this has already been posted. (I searched but I could not find anything about this )

I got one of the HUF X Diamond X BBS X Mama shirts at the "Milk" party a few months back. There was only large left, witch is to big for me. I was wondering how to get the maximum shrinkage on this shirt.

Thats what i thoutht. My washing machine has Cold/cold warm/cold / warm/warm and hot/cold. Should i use hot/cold and pull out half way throught or just let it run?

the second part of that cycle is just the rinse temperature, so don't worry about it. who knows -- maybe the temperature differential between the hot wash and the cold rinse would shock the fibers into contracting even further...?

how about altering a tee shirt length combined w this problem..could it be possible to do?

yea you can alter the length as well, but its a bit more difficult.

basically you can use normal stitching to fold the hem inwards as much as needed, then cut the excess away and go over the edge with zigzag. the hard part is that you need to fold it in equally all around, you can use needles to secure it in place and then start sewing.

depending on how skilled you are you might want to consider taking it to a tailor, I've sewn quite a lot and only tried this a couple of times, takes a bit more time then for example tapering.

yea its really easy to get it crooked, so thats probably a better idea

best idea is to wash it in hot/hot, then quickly drop it into a dryer and dry on medium or hot. that should easily shrink it at least one whole size. you might have to iron it due to the wave you're going to get from the cotton contracting.

regular cotton usually ends up really soft after tumble drying, I have never ironed a t-shirt after drying it. well actually I never iron anything because I'm lazy but anyways..

The T shirt shrunk to almost the size of a Medium (from large). It's just a bit longer. I had to iron it cause it was very wavy and wrinkeld. Thanks for the help fellows.

I had the same question because I bought a couple of tee's in size large and would like to get em down to medium's. Gonna try my luck with this in the next couple of days.

Would it be possible to use this same method for other garments? Such as a crew sweatshirt or a zip down hoodie?

Be careful with zippers, they'll warp and look really awful if you try and shrink the sweater.
