Again a trip into the woods...what you see are the ruins of an old tavern. More precisely, the cellar where they matured franconian beer, using iceblocks to keep the temperature constant around 8 °C (so I was told).

Back then, when winters were cold and icy, we used to skate and play hockey on that lake. Today would be the perfect temperature for maturing beer though.

To help burn off the holiday meals and make room for Christmas dinner I headed to a near by park for some snowshoeing. Pretty pleasant evening at only -15c (or 5 degrees in American) Far better than the -35c we have been having that last little while. Took a few pictures just before dark, had to use a flash since it was a cloudy evening.

Part 1 of entry for contest 4 (food challenge).  I'm back in Minnesota for the holidays and went out to eat at Oceanaire in Minneapolis last night.  The ambience is super cool (not my photo):

 

I had run an extremely hard 9 mile tempo workout a couple hours before the dinner, so I was famished when I got there.  I started with 2 martinis, both of which were pretty strong, so I was having fun right from the start.

 

For appetizers, I had calamari with asian vegetables:

I don't think I've ever had soy sauce with calamari before, so this was an interesting and delicious combo.

 

For the main dish, I had pink grouper in 'Dynamite' style, ie with jumbo lump crab, asparagus, and thai chili butter:

 

For the side, I had lobster poutine, which was a lot better than this awful picture would indicate:

 

Dessert was a flan cake with peppermint ice cream, doused in flaming rum:

 

In addition to my two rather strong martinis, I had 3 glasses of this Cabernet (you can see the glow from the blue lighting on the bottle):

With that much alcohol and all of the good food, I was in an extremely good mood (and glad that I didn't have to drive) by the time dinner was finished.  I definitely need to go back there again.  Apparently they have several locations across the country, so I highly recommend it if you live near one.

 

I'll do some photos with my jeans for changing of seasons tomorrow.  In the mean time, I hope that everyone that celebrates Christmas had a great holiday today!

Been a while… again. Sorry about that, I´m going through a busy phase at university right now. I´m in my final phase until may 2014 - after that, I´ll leave university behind and finally become a teacher.

 

Anyway, merry christmas everyone (although that´s almost over now…)

 

So, time for some new pictures, epic christmas dinner included. For those who are interested: IH 634S, approx. 290 days of wear without wash so far.

 

 

This year, we went with a roast goose for christmas… Delicious!

 

 

Yeah… So much for loosing weight. Won´t be thinner anytime soon, I guess…

 

 

 

 

 

Damn, that´s probably the worst lighting… They´re not that dark, as you can guess…

 

 

I keep a box of breath mints in there… wonder how long it will take till the box tears through.

 

 

I´m not sure when I´ll finally give them their first wash, but I´m really curious how these combs will turn out?

 

 

Yeah, this is the repaired crotch area. Looks like it´s gonna tear again soon…

I also went to a Sushi & Sake Bar down in Gainesville, Florida called DragonFly after my weekly rock climbing with friends, 3 of us ate sushi and each ordered 2 rolls (one of them ordered an extra).  One roll incorporated Strawberry to give the shrimp a sweeter taste, another on there was the house roll and was wrapped with a little dumpling around it.  It was amazing and not a terrible price:

I promised to take some photos on my trip home, but ended up with just a few cellphone shots. Hope you enjoy them nevertheless.



The hems are a mess now. Ripping roping, loose threads everywhere (some restitched, some not) and worn through fabric. I'm thinking of getting another chainstitching done on top of the old one.


I'll be at the sea some days and wear these jeans, then wash them and then hopefully add the UES to the rotation. And I'll add to the tattoo collection later this month.

Since the car battery blew up in my face my life has changed in a couple of different ways. I went out to see Cat Power play, ended up drinking a bunch of tequila with her then went home, and fell into the bathtub while trying to take off my pants. My arm broke. Then couple days after that my cold turned into pneumonia. I think some of you people may enjoy to hear this.

Thanks Max!  I do like how they're coming along, but haven't kept up with the other forums, so I'm not sure what everyone else has going on.  And don't forget that I still have to last another 15 months without completely destroying them.

Ok, you have a point. I just check the IHF and beside Licorice Noice I can't remember a completely outstanding pair (no offense to anybody!). I think the MBB (the majority of pairs in this contest) are tougher to fade than I thought, maybe due to the looser cut compared to the 666XHS, which faded rather quick. I encountered the same with my 500XX: same denim as on my 710 and they fade way slower. The only difference is the looser cut of the 500s.

tho  the cut is definitely a factor,  IMO,  the end result lies squarely on how the indigo dye breaks down in response to the way the jeans were worn by the user.  

 

some, like FCs & SDAs,  tend to be slow on the upturn [slow-faders] ...  & just when you think you already got the break in going,  you hit a  "plateau".   but,  the payback  @the back-end has always been gratifying for me,  anyway. 

 

not to rain on any1's parade,  but this is a 2-yr competition ... of different denim brands w/different fade rates/cycles ...  full "metamorphosis"  [for some] will come around the last quarter bend
