Shoes that look better with age...

Recommended Posts

I have to ask the obvious question, just to be sure, and pls forgive me if you have, but did you unbuckle the instep strap?

That's the bane of all types of slip-on boots. A couple of other suggestions in addition to all of the above: you can try a silicon spray on either or both inside the heel of the boot and inside the instep. try will the thinnest socks you have, liek dress socks. If you can get your foot in, they will prolly give a little so you could eventually wear thicker socks. If you're going to keep them, you can try a leather softener to get the leather to relax the instep a bit. A cobbler will use it to stretch shoes/boots. You can also try saddle soap to soften the leather. but can't say from experience that it works.

For those with engineer boots, are you supposed to buckle and unbuckle the boot straps every time you put them on and take them off?

Was finally bored enough to take some shots of the boots. I'm liking the guarded goods laces.

Wow, engineers sound fun boots :D

I've been off them for about 30 years, after my then-gf looked me up and down and said, "So, where are we going, puss-in-boots?"

Speaking of boot jacks, I’m interested in seeing what some of y’all are using to get engineers/boots etc off.

Here’s mine

I don't use/need a boot jack for my engineers. The one pair that I had that was extremely difficult to get on was also just too small so they were sold.

I use a bootjack, it's just faster to get them off with one as opposed to sitting down and pulling them off.

Sorry to veer off topic...

here are my RDTs after maybe like 7-8 wears? Haven’t been able to wear them much due to the partial lockdown situation here. They have definitely become darker, and the grains on the leather are becoming more obvious.

No, it’s not necessary.

Who’d have thought you‘d need specialist equipment plus degrees in maths, physics and ergonomics in order to wear a pair of boots :wacko2:

Lofgren engineers; no degree required, equipment optional:

Before you posted this, I figured you were using Clinch’s boot jack.

I thought about getting it the last time I was there, but I just don't need it.

Chippewas after 3 years or so of regular wear. It’s a shame they discontinued these. They were affordable, looked good (to my eyes), and were hardwearing.  Not fancy, but got the job done.  I wore my last pair for over ten years, and had to get these replacements on the ebay. Still a few floating around, but starting to dry up.

Yeah, I run Chippewa almost exclusively. I was recently told by Schott folks that the entire Original Chippewa (MIA premium collection) was scrapped. It's a shame. I guess it's Red Wing Heritage for me from here. No offense to the $700+ crowd, but it isn't for me. These White's are also on my list though:

Yes, I've been tempted by these 4Q collabs as well.  But ultimately I'm a toecap guy.

@tod @Jared_Lee I own the Whites 4q69 boots. They’re awesome and do comfy.
I keep them as my nice boots.
