After three months of searching, I finally found a pair of Lone Wolf Farmer boots in black, size 8, which I thought would be perfect. They came in yesterday and I’m a bit gutted because they just don’t fit properly. The length feels good, maybe a touch long; the width feels alright also, but it’s the vertical height from the sole to the top of the arch that’s making these difficult to wear. I’m going to put these up for sale and look for a smaller size, but in the meantime wonder if this is a problem others have had and (hopefully) been able to solve. As mentioned these are extremely hard to come by nowadays so I’d love to be able to make them work if at all possible!

Sorry I’m not using the right terminology lol. I looked at a few diagrams and realized what I meant is that the instep is too spacious for my foot. I imagine the width of the shaft is also a contributor, I’ve only really worn lace up sneakers and boots before this so the amount of space I have from my ankle up is unexpected. An insole helped a bit but didn’t keep my foot from feeling like the boot was hanging off it each time I took a step.

By your description, it sounds like they might be too big. A photo with them on would be helpful. The photo links you put up above don't load for me so I can't see what they show. But if the instep feels sloppy and you describe the length as being a touch long, I'd say they're the wrong size. Boots like these can be difficult to size right given the lack of lacing, especially when you have to sort of guess the sizing over the internet.

@chicote It’s the nature of the beast, I’m afraid ... had the same feeling when I had my 1st engineer boots.

U need to tweak your mindset a bit, cuz u’re so used to having things laced up & secured, down there.

Concept is like wearing ur jeans slightly different from how ur used to ... loose & pulled down a bit ... or like, relaxing &  letting your hair down, so to speak

Engineers never seemed to work for me  
I couldn’t deal with the sloppy feet issue. It ended up giving me bad hot spots on the bottom of my feet.    
I’ve been ruined by wearing lace up smokejumpers for years. So anything that isn’t snug or high arch kills my feet.

Thanks for that one also @BrownMetallic!! I’ll have to keep that one in mind next time I try to wear my tcb’s at their proper height, just below the nipples — which councidentally is another spot that I’ve heard stands to benefit from a bit of electricity!

Supposedly, another engineer by Whites is coming out as part of a collab with Max again.

I saw how you battled your Chromexcel boots so that inspired my Wesco order.

Right, Maynard’s suggestion didn’t work, and actually upset me quite a bit, and Brownmetallic’s alternative reminded me of an investigative piece I read about certain TSA checkpoints, so I’m going to try and entertain the more well-intentioned ideas from the rest of you.

@beautiful_FrEaK thank you! I tried using some saphir insoles but they didn’t seem to make a difference. A tongue pad might, though! @persco_ I reckon you’re right; I’m leaning towards them being too long generally but am also wondering whether my thin-ish foot is just not the right shape for a boot with such a wide shaft. Here’s a quick drawing of where I feel my foot is in the boot:

The problem is mainly the frontmost blue region; my foot slips up into that area when taking a step. Is that a sensation others have with this sort of boot? Should most of the “grab” come from the toe and heel, or is there supposed to be additional support to the top of the foot that I’m not getting? I’m interested in finding a pair a size down and seeing if it makes a difference, but now am having doubts as to whether this sort of shoe would ever work for me.

@chicote the boot is just too big - a pull on boot that is the correct size will stay on without issues. If you’re not used to a pull on boot then the feeling of ‘slip’ is initially quite noticeable but that’s a confidence issue and disappears as you become used to the boot

@chicote - from my limited experience via redwing I find that my pecos [which the farmer boots seem more akin to] fit a lot more loosely than my 2268 engineers [which initially gripped with an iron vice like nature on the top of the vamp] - I enjoy both fits now [the engineers relented in the end]; but found that the cowboy style boot was a lot looser, a little bit like comfy vans...

[I remember searching on this; and recall something about cowboy boots needing to have a quick release of the foot in case of falling off the horse and the boot being caught in the stirrup? I welcome being corrected by those who know more]

Copped my first pair of Feit footwear. Chelsea Rubber boots. I've been following Feit since their inception, always kinda interested in them. When I saw these on sale, the price was good enough for me to try them. They graciously shipped a 42 and 43 and let me send back the pair that doesn't fit. I went with the 43. It's a bit long in the toe, but the width and volume are good. I have wide feet and prefer EE and EEE sizes, so they're not quite ideal, but good enough for random casual wear.

The leather is described as veg-tanned semi-cordovan. From I can learn, it's hind quarter horse hide that contains the shell layer. I've seen this used on other JP footwear brands, including TFH. These boots are an interesting blend on rustic, refined, and rugged. Craftsmanship is top-notch, but not as perfect as the high end custom makers. Fully hand stitched GYW by one master craftsman. Made from a single piece of leather with only one seam at the back. The fit is very comfortable. They're one of the few pairs of boots with a heel that I can tolerate. This is largely due tot he sloped heel block and no built-in arch support. Overall very pleased.

I wear a 10.5 in Red Wing and White's, 9.5 in Lofgren, 44 in most European brands I've tried, 28.0 in Japanese sneakers

I think I'm about a true 28.0–28.5 (with socks), and most of what's confusing is the discrepancies between their various listed size charts: on the item page for the plain toe oxfords (http://www.motostyle.jp/moto/01mens-shoes/2100/2100.html), they list a size 3 as 28.0–28.5, which seems great; meanwhile, on the shop page for the same (http://store-motostyle.jp/?pid=140360641), they list a size 3 as simply 28.0, which could go either way; and, on their general sizing page (http://store-motostyle.jp/?mode=f1), they list a size 3 as 27.0–28.0, which I'd say doesn't bode well at all

I used to own the MOTO Pecos in Size 2. I wear US 9.5D in Red Wing Iron Rangers. I managed to get into the MOTOs but getting them on and off was a paoin. Once I was in it was okay. I probably would have preferred a size 3 so it will be close if they will fit you (although length wise I think it could work based on my experiences).

I really like MOTO but can't get behind their offering in sizes (basically only 4 sizes for many styles?!). And those aren't Oxfords but that's another topic
