I used to nerd out on boots years ago and while researching construction methods and such ive inadvertently stumbled into the cowboy boot world.. fuck me, there's a plethora of makers, custom builders, family businesses who are 3rd/4th generation cowboy boot makers, it's a crazy world which mirrors ours in weirdness..

^Rios are a good shout for a sufu approved style but it depends how outlandish you want to go, scratch the surface and you'll find a another world out there who will cater to any perculiar taste with impeccable quality, it can be quite repulsive at times because there's not many species they don't consider 'boot-worthy'

May i suggest these bad ass bitches from Tejas, you would never fuck with anyone who was wearing these!

@julian-wolf

nothing detailed, but enjoyed this article recently...

https://www.texasmonthly.com/being-texan/texans-boots-reflections-favorite-people/

particularly liked bit on Sandra Cisneros... [otherwise lots on luchesse and kimmel boot company]

whites does two versions...

https://whitesboots.com/rancher/drover/

https://whitesboots.com/rancher/plainsman/

wesco morrison looks strong imo...

https://bakershoe.com/products/custom-wesco-morrison-boots

echoing @Jared_Lee that finding normal priced boots totally fine: really enjoying redwing pecos with a roper heel: e width and they feel like vans (in a good way)...

uk Felix boot man seems to like making them too...

found this website a while ago: never had a reason to share until now...

http://www.bootedman.com/cowboy/

on the chippewa topic; he has this meaty looking pair of cowboy boots for riding...

http://www.bootedman.com/cycle/chippewapitstop.html

@mlwdp that's pretty wild, that place is like a 5 minute drive from my house.
I had seen it before and noticed that it always seems closed, so I figured they were out of business. It's probably by appointment only.

Charlie Dunn, the founder of Texas Traditions, also has a wiki page

”The michelangelo of cowboy boots”

If they ever grant you a tour of their place, post some pics!

That's pretty cool, had no idea. My dad has been saying now that he lives in Texas he needs a pair of cowboy boots. Maybe he'll spring for a pair. :D

Well my wife said I need one pair that I don’t ruin using for construction work. So I agreed to keep these boots clean haha

If that’s the case, maybe you should go for the Horsehide custom version by Baker’s!

+1 to Rios of Mercedes. I've posted this video before, in case you haven't seen it, the vids before were really grainy and in 3 parts. Channel cut welted soles, slight spring to the front edge of the heel, lemon wood nails in the sole. It's always a good watch.

Lucchese is a standard in the cowboy boot world, and they have some models that might SuFu approved. I like their ropers in plain leathers.

This is the blog that started it all for me.  It introduced me to White’s, Wesco, Red Wing, etc.

Anyone remember this blog?  Doesn’t update as much anymore.

@julian-wolf need more info bud. Square toe? Regular toe? Exotic leather? Etc

Either square or round toe, but not pointed; standard leather; possibly some adornments on the shaft, but otherwise looking at pretty plain makeups. Would likely prefer a leather sole, so that may end up being a limiting factor.

Really liking the look of the RDT Pecos, and also liking what I'm seeing from Lucchese and Rios of Mercedes. Thanks, all, for the recommendations—I've got some reading to do.

edit: I also think I'll prefer a heel on the lower end, maybe 1" to 1 1/4". Liked the aesthetic & construction of the Whites linked above, but I'm already tall enough as it is.
