Shoes that look better with age...

X-Post from MF thread

Took delivery of one of the last pairs of trooper boots today. Took a total gamble on sizing (MF says half size down from sneaker size - but I wear US9 in CTs and US10,5 in Vans, so yeah) but the 9,5 fits. Can't wait to start breaking these in!

I totally love the selvedge denim drawstring bag they came in, too.

It most certainly is great to see a canvas sneaker where the canvas gives out but the rubber looks fine ;) With standard CTs it's always been the opposite for me, rubber breaking at stress points.

Lofgrens numero uno, though I might have my biases. :P

Not a fan of the gloxi sole or the fact that they look like police combat boots.

Sorry to hear that:( ... different strokes for different folks, right?!

I suppose I could've chosen anything other than a Gloxi ... or any other color besides black ... but, i have been hunting for a pair of sensible black boots to replace my aging/worn in Black Indy.

The design concept was semi-inspired by Kyle Reese's (Michael Biehn) BlackTrench X BlackNike hi-tops steez from the first Terminator movie.

So, 'thought I'd treat this F/W Scout to a stealthy, nimble, "hit-the-ground-running" kinda cross-utility urban concrete trekker fit for city-dwellers.

The tonal stitching + stained midsole + roughout [alt., waxed flesh] shaft are color-blocking features to visually askew from the blunt opacity of a solid black boot.

Btw, the Gloxi is not set in stone,  though the sub has to be in wedge, as well ....

I went TTS.

edit: I.e., they fit similar to Alden Trubalance.

thanks Aries. And is the fit good for you or on the looser side?

As reading up on alden lasts (as i have no clue on Alden), the consensus seems to be size down half for the trubalance.

The fit was spot on for my foot. The consensus is indeed to size down for TB, but of course that 'size down' is relative to other sizes you take in other shoes, which again are on different lasts, sized differently depending on brand, and so on...!

For example - I've owned 9.5-11 in Alden Trubalance (currently own the 11s); all have fit my foot more or less, with changes in socks.

I wear a 10.5 in Viberg if that helps, but also own a 10 and 11 in Viberg; again, both fit.

And yet, in notoriously small, narrow lasts like Brass Clinch Tokyo's 'Closed Narrow' (CN) last, where everyone says to size up 2(!), I actually fit into an 11 fine, where I was told I'd need at least a 12 (fits fine too with insert), probably a 13 (nah, would be way too big).

tldr; take all size advice with a grain of salt.

They look similar to White's LTT Smokejumpers.  Very nice!

Just found out Trickers himalaya collection is on their store. Been waiting for the navy stow type boot (called Hardie) since I saw sneak previews of it earlier in the year, but it's £495! :o

Also found out they have price hike on all products few months ago, standard boots are now £425! :o

I've become a big Trickers fan, but even I'm not sure about these prices. What do others feel about their pricing now?

Shameless Plug:

Styleforum X Viberg GMTO is currently on its voting stage ... just thought I'd ask here, for the last time, if there any interests here for ...

6" ScoutBoots: Black ScotchGrain Horsebutt (Italy)

•2040 Last •Stitchdown •Allaround Grey Tonal Stitching •8-Gunmetal Eyelets •Pingpong toe ... as for the proposed sole, Black Gloxicut__ but I'm flexible to a dark-stained, stacked midsole on full/mini ripple.

Bottom photo is the actual leather that'll be used.

I've seen the RW Beckman soles start to crack and break in a similar fashion with little wear time. For some reason they use a very cheap rubber sole on these models. I'd probably have them resoled right after buying.

definitely change my view toward them

Definitely time for a resole.

Resole for sure, just wanted to know what causing this. Im familiar with polyurethane disintegrating on sneakers but on boots? is it humidity is the main culprit?
