I can do a natural hh in veg tanned but would not recommend it cause it would look funky but watever floats your boat

Ed, I'm a little confused...are you doing a project, or are you starting your own brand?

May I ask who is making the boots, and which tanneries do the leathers come from?

Well this is interesting.

Came across this company out of Texas called BECK. Even though they MTO cowboy boots, they also have their own MTO work boots:

Very nice collection BM! How do you find the pit tanned bison leather? Any different from Horween's bison?

On another note...

Theoretically speaking, if we could do a Sufu shoe/boot, which leather would be more interesting?

Horsebutt? Or, Kangaroo?

I can get some special vegetable tanned Kangaroo made, extra heavy at 1.3 to 1.5 mm - stronger than horsehide, and finer grain & much thicker than the kangaroo used by the big brands (RM Williams, Viberg, etc).

Premium grade Kangaroo usually max 1.1 mm btw.

Horsebutt is just horsebutt, like everyone elses' horsebutt - maybe interesting colours like tan or navy.

^ Have no idea about cobblers in China. But basically you'll want a cobbler or a factory that can replace a Goodyear welt.

If you want guaranteed quality and are willing to spend a bit more, send them to Japan.

If not, go to your local upmarket men's shoe store - e.g. somewhere that stocks John Lobb, etc - and ask them who they use for servicing.

Resoled my Tender rough-out service shoe.

I know, not Cat's Paw or Biltrite, but this is probably as good as it gets in Aus for a brass screw shoe.

The companies that own brass screw machines will only rebuild their own shoes :-/

The original crepe sole was nice, but became dirty real quick, and was very slippery when wet - almost killed myself on a couple of staircases when it rained.

Can anyone point me to the best place to get replacement laces for Indy boots? After 8.5 years the lace finally snapped!

http://www.shoelacesexpress.com

They have a huge selection of laces, and you have to sort through to find what you want. Best selection of laces in one place I've come across. Save yourself a lot of time and aggravation endlessly searching the internets.

I have these waxed round boot laces on a few pair - very good quality, rigid, thick, but  not too thick at 5/32";

If you want waxed flat for Indy's, you'll have to get a custom length;

I've also used their waxed cotton round - good for dressier shoes and boots, but not as tough as the waxed boot laces above;

I had come across these guys quite a while ago as well, when searching for Munson lasted boots. They will make custom boots on the Munson last. Some of their offerings look pretty good, at least in pics.

Might not be the best place but figured i'd try. I am interested in the Jelado x Rhythm Footwear Sandwich's. Anyone know how to size for them? I found a picture that seems they are sized similar to converse and Shoes Like Pottery so was going to go with my SLP size (size 28 in SLP, 10 in converse but 11 in Nike, Adidas, Vans, etc) so a but wanted to make sure before I throw the money on them.

I posted a series of vids about Rios of Mercedes a couple of years ago, but they were low quality. I recently found this single vid in much higher quality, so I thought it was worth posting again. These guys really know how to make good boots.

  • 2 weeks later...

I guess it depends on your jean size, if you're a 36 or 38 the hem might be pretty huge. On the other hand 50s cuts aren't that wide overall (meaning it's no 20s gold digger tents for legs cut). I don't see why it shouldn't work on principle.
