@whodini,

here is another sap who bought womens RRL jeans.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180345766381

32" waist with a 9" rise on a Slim Fit tagged 28.. which should measure 10.5".

I don't care about the MIJ RRLs. The guys busting out their jeans have current gen models, made in the USA with a BURLAP back tag, telling me they are wearing Mens models tagged 29w but measure 34" in the waist. Half of them are wearing Slim Straights.

At the same time I'm sure you can confirm that a 32" waist in SL will have a 12" rise. Then those guys say they are wearing 34" SL with an 11" rise, which should be 12.5" on mens jeans in that size and cut with no exception.

@dzynr

I don't live in CA, I live in D.C.. All mens models will have a 5 button fly especially over 29w which I can speak from personal experience. I am currently breaking in a Slim Fit in 30w with 5 button fly.

You are correct about the sizing.

Rigid will be 2" over tag

Rinse will be 1" over

Washes tend to be dead on, depending on the wash

Why don't you take some pics for us of the pocket bags and post it here? And tell us the rise of your jeans while you are at it.

I'm really not too concerned with other people buying "womens" RRL or otherwise. You probably shouldn't be that concerned, either.

The reason I brought up the MIJs and later generations is to show how inconsistent RRL has been in its denim history. These rules of thumb you toss around work to a degree but clearly don't apply in several cases as people have pointed out. You could probably save some face on this thread by admitting the possibility of such and could help in the case of dzynr78's pair.

Straight Legs are 501 copies so yes, the rise is high. It would make sense that the rise would get longer as the waist became bigger but there's no way of knowing which run they have (whether purchased on ebay or in-store) nor do you have a size up or down in the same run of the jeans in which to compare.

Come to think of it, however, doesn't an 11" rise on a 34" waist seem...oddly long for a pair of "womens" jeans? The only way I can think that possible would be if they were a "boyfriend cut" which essentially is a copy of mens' jeans.

yeah 11" does seem oddly long.

But it's oddly short to be a SL with a 34"w, so my guess is that he's giving extra tension on the rise to prove his point, when in reality they probably measure 10" with no tension which would be the standard measurement of the rise on a pair of womens RRL jeans with a 34"w.

i'll try and post pics of the pocket bags tomorrow but the front rise on my MENS size 31x34 slim fit raws is 9.5". it's the straight fit(identical to 501's) that have the higher rise. they don't sell women's merchandise at the melrose store and again, my MENS slim fits only have FOUR buttons.

when did you get your slims? mine are brand new, only 3 weeks old. oh, and they're the US made version.

no... it's because you are wearing vanity sized womens jeans. Fgt

nobody in their right mind would size down 5 nor would they need to with mens RRL cuts.

before you call someone a retard, you can't even tell the difference between mens and womens jeans, that's as retarded as it gets.

hate to break it to you, but mens jeans can also be vanity sized *gAAASSP*

but ya, womens RRL has 4 buttons and a super low crothch where as the mens has 5 button fly

also, the slim fits are meant to be worn low on the hips, thus the vanity sizing. It even says so right on the backpocket hang tag. The reason i think we are finding such discrepencies between the waist sizing is due to the 2 similar but different cuts of RRL jeans SLim and STraight. Slim is meant to be worn loose and low on the wiast while being fairly fitted everywhere else where as the straight fit is the more traditional 501 fit, not meant to be worn low on the hips.

Also, not everyone likes their jeans as snug as others do, so that too might play a big role on these fluctuating sizing stories.

my mens slim fits only have four buttons!! what is so hard about understanding the fact that there are different generations of RRL denim? why is It that if others RRLs don't have the same rise or the same number of buttons as yours, they're automatically womens jeans. you must have an old pair from a previous generation because my slims, from the melrose flagship store, are new with a 9.5" rise and 4 buttons!

look believe what you want about your jeans, I really don't care anymore.

The Slim Fit and Slim Bootcut are not low rise jeans. They are mid rise. They sit 'lower' on the waist but that doesn't mean 9.5" low on a 34" waist.

my 30w has a 10" rise with 5 button fly. The 32w has a 10.5" rise just like the Low Straight, both with 5 button fly. A 31w with 9.5" rise and 4 button fly is suspect.

Tell that to the guys at rrl on melrose, the newest rrl store in the country. Casino usually helps me out.

Are you measuring to the crotch seam or to the bottom, when the jeans lie flat(below the seam)?

why are you being so stubborn? there ARE different generations, thus different fits, of rrl jeans.

there's just no point in trying to reason with someone who refuses to accept the facts. i'm done. go ahead and enjoy your OLDER gen rrls. i'll keep rockin my NEW gen, lower rise, mens rrl's.

I wouldn't worry too much about DC. I think the general consensus is that he's three inches tall, made of plastic, and has tall hair.

The Melrose people are legit. I know a couple of people that work there, including the GM, and they know their shit because some of them were even brought over from the RRL store in LES.

Point is, I'd trust them (and the RRL rep) over some random dude on the internet and a couple of pairs of his jeans.

fuck, made of plastic! that's actually kinda cool. is the hair, like, gotti bros tall?

ya, the gm and some of the other cats were brought over from ny. one of my best friends designs footwear for purple label and we were in the melrose store about three weeks ago picking up my MENS slim fits and some other stuff. dude, the employee discount is sweet!!! i met the gm and a couple of the employees. really cool guys that definately know their shit.

by the way, thanks for the measurements for the farinelli's shipment. very generous of you.

No sweat on the measurements. There's nearly zero info on RRL ( i know that's the way Ralph likes it but...) so I try to take advantage when I can.

You should have hit up Melrose for the party I mentioned on here two weeks ago. It was good times.

i know! i was so pissed about missing the sale. i only found out about it after i read your post on the rrl thread. it's hard for me to purchase anything without my buddys employee discount, though the sale discount wasn't bad at all.

yeah whodini knows really knows his shit, he knows almost every Sales Associate from around the country, GM's, people at the 'Corporate' level, even Ralph Lauren himself (since he seems to know what he likes and doesn't like...) Yet somehow only owns two pairs of 10 year old zip fly RRLs, missed the memo about RRL making Womens merch for the past 8 years which I had to clue him in on and is responsible for 'gems' like this

Please show me a pair of RRL jeans that were specfically designed and tagged for a woman

RRL jeans are unisex at best

Nope.

They do make women's cuts. RRL in Georgetown carries them. There are only a few cuts, but they definitely exist.

Yeah, that's why I never paid attention to the womens jeans: they're tagged like mens, ie, 30x32 instead of size 8.

So mens= low straight, straight leg, slim bootcut, buckleback, and slim fit, womens= slim straight.

..and Slim Bootcut and Slim Fit.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Georgetown Womens merch found it's way to the Melrose store after being shut down and was passed off with the rest of the Menswear, but your good buddy 'Casino' was too busy making a sale to know the difference... looks like the Melrose store still has a thing or two to learn - then again most employees at any RRL (or any clothing store) are completely clueless.

My Slim Fits are absolutely 'current' and my front pocket bags measure 10" from the inside of the waist, to the bottom of the pocket bags. Seeing as the Slim Fit is also a direct rip of a Levis cut, I don't think they'll be making changes to their formula anytime soon.

As far as I'm concerned, both of you are just here to shamelessly plug farenellis, at least whodini is, since styleforum business must not be doing so hot.

seriously, you know everything. the guys at rrl on melrose don't know shit and casino was too busy making a sale. is that about right?

there's absolutely no point in trying to reason with you. unless they're the same exact cut as yours, they're automatically womens jeans. maybe you're rockin the bitch jeans.

i'd give you his name and have you look him up yourself but you'd probably do some weird shit with it. i graduated with him from the art center college of design in pasadena, california in '07. i got a bachelor's in transportation design while he got a bachelors in product design. he went on to work for gordon rush in san diego, right out of school, then moved to new york to design mens footwear for ralph lauren in the purple label department. i went on to work for honda r&d in torrance, california designing exterior concepts. we get paid well to draw shit all day. what the fuck do you do?

and why would i have to lie about some shit like that anyway? there's one type of person in life that i can't tolerate and that's a fucking liar.

nice you even took out the time to make up a back story.

if you get paid so well why do you need your buddy's employee discount?? hmm..

ya, back story. you seriously have issues.

who in their right mind would pay full price for something when you could get it for half off?? you don't get or stay wealthy by blowing money when you don't need to? just showing off your intelligence level for us, huh?

again, so what do you do while i sit in front of my brand new mac sketching and rendering cool shit all day?

whoa! you have a brand new mac that's so cool

someone who gets 'well paid' could spend $220 on a pair of jeans without even thinking twice or begging employees to hook them up.

And seriously, bragging about hookups from an employee isn't wise, someone from the melrose store could be reading this and your friend 'casino' would be out of a job - isn't wise to name drop either.

I guess your definition of well paid and mine are completely different, as to be expected.
