when i was younger i used to skate and always bring this shitty old camcorder along with me to film because i wanted to be a cinematographer. but for some reason, deep down i thought that was the dumbest idea ever because id never be able to achieve it.

 

but for some reason now, i just want to fuckin do it. university has come and gone, im working and shit but i cant shake wanting to chase that damn dream.

 

im gunna do it; or atleast try.

 

quick update on this. im a product photographer at one of my jobs and the other day when everyone in my dept left and nobody else was in the office i decided to try to learn a lil bit of final cut pro and made a short video using youtube tutorials and now my boss wants me to do a continual short video series.

 

I told him that that was my first video and i was watching youtube tutorials while i was making it. so he says "well nows the time to learn" and got me a set of dual monitors for my desk and told me my mac will be here next week. (was using someone elses computer the day I made the video)

 

feels good.

 

some of you dus already know for awhile i was mad depressed and ish so for my brothers and sisters in the sad struggle. hold fast, believe in yourself enough to try things, stay based, and put yourself in that positive realm. life changes drastically when you do.

I aint no Djraj, or Elronn. But i am getting a chance to get paid to learn something i just said i always wanted to lowkey do and it was after i decided to try and get my mind in the right gear.

Good luck to you, dude. I recall people recommending this in the past, but keep an exercise routine going and you may find it helps (not to minimize it and say 'ur body making crazy sad chemicals out of your control, just run a mile, you'll be straight'). Seriously, best of luck finding your way out of that. Hope you have people around you to offer support and more life wisdom/personal experience than that.

This is gonna be a fairly long post so be prepared but I promise that I won't give you any BS.

 

 

Do you feel "depressed" or actually have clinical depression / major depressive disorder?

We all feel down sometimes but depression and depressed mood are completely different things. It's very important to make a distinction between the two. Depression is characterized by a constellation of psychiatric and physical signs and symptoms that persist for a period of time.

 

Get a good psychiatrist who doesn't just prescribe meds / do med-checks. It should be an individual who is well trained in giving psychotherapy in addition to having excellent knowledge of diagnosis and treatment i.e. tailoring medication therapy.  

 

In many cases, depression is situational and/or there is some underlying reason that is precipitating bad mood. Often times, it is quite challenging for patients to identify the root cause because they constantly feel like they are in middle of a shitstorm and the illness blunts their cognitive ability, preventing them from seeing what the real problem is. That's why you need a good coach — a psychiatrist who can give you an objective view on your issues. She will guide you in exploring yourself, provide a little sense of direction, and ultimately help you beat the illness.

 

Be selective about your choice of a psychologist / therapist. Some just do a lot of reflective listening and agreeing while providing little guidance to you. This, in my opinion, is very much a waste of money. You are just paying money to vent. This should be a job for your support system. You might lose friends and even your significant other. But you will definitely establish long-lasting relationships with the ones who endure this process. You may cause a significant amount of stress to your family but don't worry too much about it. 

 

Look into cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, exercise, and most of all, have a regular schedule i.e. not going to bed at 4am and getting up at 2pm everyday. 

 

This will be a difficult time but it could also be a time for personal growth. You might learn a lot about yourself. Look on the bright side and be glad that you hit a rock early in your life, rather than in your adulthood, which is more difficult to recover from (I presume you are still young).
