De-stinking leather hi-tops

i've got a pair of year-old leather and suede lanvin hi-tops that are smelling atrocious. i spent way too much on these to retire them now... any suggestions? if they were just vans i'd throw them in the washing machine but that's not an option here. i've heard cedar shoe trees work well for dress shoes but not sure about sneakers...

you can send them for a professional de-stink to B. Nelson in NY. They use some sort of metallic ion something or other.
