The Myers Briggs Mystery Club

timber

Recommended Posts

Just a reminder, introversion and extroversion as a dichotomy (whether your an INTJ, ENFP, etc through methods like Myer Briggs) is not supported by science or psychology . BUT as a spectrum, there is a lot of evidence. Most people though are somewhere in the middle and have some introverted traits and some extroverted traits under different conditions. Few exist on the extreme ends of the scale.

I don't like test like this because labeling yourself has a limiting effect on your potential.

All of you are beautiful and unpredictable. : )

this.

And more importantly, the validity of most measures in Myers-Briggs tests are statistically ambiguous. There's a reason personality psychologists have shied away from such measures.

Edit: Which isn't to say it's not fun. It's also probably just not very accurate.

ESTJ - Extravert(1%) Sensing(12%) Thinking(100%) Judging(22%)

You have marginal or no preference of Extraversion over Introversion (1%)

You have slight preference of Sensing over Intuition (12%)

You have strong preference of Thinking over Feeling (100%)

Quite accurate on the E and T parts actually.

The Myers-Briggs Personality Test Is Pretty Much Meaningless

I don't think this test should be glorified beyond what it offers. You can't actually simplify people down to sixteen personality types, but you can use it as a tool to start understanding the perspective of others.

The reason I find it so interesting is because it gives this very rough sketch of the connection between behavior and cognitive process of people. I don't agree that it comes down to the Forer Effect (despite what the article says) because each type is given both strengths and weaknesses. When it comes to using that information to fuel self improvement, it's entirely up to the individual.

What's I'm REALLY interested about is the connection between personality and mental health. How specific cognitive functions can be clue to if you might be more likely to have a certain chemical imbalance. I'm just super curious about people, and want to understand why they are like they are.

You can take the test or not, it doesn't really matter. I think anything is only worth as much as you reflect on it. =)

I hate being placed in a box. I understand the human need behind it, because people need to feel safe and a bunch of other stuff

that said I'm always curious; this is what I got

ENFJ

Extravert(1%) iNtuitive(12%) Feeling(12%) Judging(11%)

You have marginal or no preference of Extraversion over Introversion (1%)

You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (12%)

You have slight preference of Feeling over Thinking (12%)

These tests are not meant to be a label, the MBTI allows you to have a better understanding into why and how you approach problems and situations. Understanding how your cognitive functions stack is also very important. Just because you get ENFJ, you may have a different preference in regards to your Fe, Ni, Se, etc. Every person will be a little bit different and in some of the personality types there are huge differences from person to person.

ENTP.

It also seems that there are an awful lot of INTP's in here considering they are such a rare type....?

Long live this thread.

Maybe it's more frivolous than scientific, but damn if it doesn't warm my heart when people post in it.

I'd think introverted people are usually a majority on online forums - INTPs, INTJs and INFJs aren't common personality types, but the internet is a different jungle.
