supermanda 13 Posted July 15, 2008 well, those were two Euro Gs which works out about 3,000 CAD, but still havn't made too much of a dent. I stayed at a hostel for a week while I looked at apartments. The Canadiana, it's right down town, about 20 bucks a night, super clean and safe. Although if you;re willing to spend more i think you can get your own en suite room. I'd recommend staying as downtown as possible.i originally hoped to spend about a hundred less on rent than i am, but it's so worth it to be so central. did you find a casino job yet?!
KyleFall 8,492 Posted July 15, 2008 nah i cant imagine finding a casino job. ill probably end up working in some shitty call center or begging for change after 6 months. even still, living on the streets in toronto is probably better than having a home in charlottetown lol.
gimmegimme 62,968 Posted July 15, 2008 +1 for the advice on living on the subway line...otherwise your life will suck. Keep posting potential apartment locations on here and we can tell you if the area is decent or not.
KyleFall 8,492 Posted July 16, 2008 this looks like a bargain http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/apa/755862731.html this looks really ideal as well http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/apa/755413681.html and i know this location is sexy as hell but its only a 1 br. for the same place in a 2 bedroom, how much more should i be expecting to pay in rent. 200-300 more? http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/apa/756216659.html

They're basically in those ugly 30-floor skyscrapers that you see everywhere (here). With the last one, you're paying to be that close to the UofT campus.
KyleFall 8,492 Posted July 16, 2008 I fine with living a skyscraper. It would be cool for a bit because it's foreign to me.
gimmegimme 62,968 Posted July 16, 2008 I fine with living a skyscraper. It would be cool for a bit because it's foreign to me. I suppose. Those buildings aren't the nicest you'll find, but are the easiest for sure. Keep in mind though - the larger the building, the more neighbours you have (bad). Either way though, no one keeps their first apartment when moving here for the first time...take whatever you can find, don't sign a lease if you don't have to, and then learn the area you'd like to live in.

KyleFall 8,492 Posted August 21, 2008 So my friend who I was supposed crash for a couple of weeks with has moved out of Toronto and I am scheduled to arrive on September 12th, looking to move in for October 1st. My roomate to be, is staying with this girl he knows parents in Burlington until we get a place. The big problem is I don't have a place to stay from the 12th or slightly later until October 1st. Who has some ideas for me. Hostels suck and Hotels are too expensive and I think the odds of me finding a sublet for 2 weeks are probably pretty low.

broneck 1,657,139 Posted August 25, 2008 I don't think I've ever worked for minimum wage, but I'm currently working as a Texas Hold'Em dealer at the entertainment center here. I don't think there are any similar positions in the downtown Toronto area so I'm not sure what I would be doing for work. Isn't woodbine like a 20 minute drive outside toronto? get a shitty car and apply there.
terrible! 27,676 Posted August 25, 2008 Are there underground pokerrooms I have a shot at getting a job in? That would be fucking sick. I'm extreeemely qualified hahaha. I read that as Pokemon rooms and I was both sad at the fact this would exist, and excited at the possibilities.
KyleFall 8,492 Posted August 25, 2008 Isn't woodbine like a 20 minute drive outside toronto? get a shitty car and apply there. Woodbine doesn't have a pokerroom. If they did I would be all over it. The apartment looks great but its for rent for September 1st and I probably can't move in until the 15th at the earliest. I sent an email out anyway, waiting on a response.
KyleFall 8,492 Posted September 7, 2008 I'm finally arriving to Toronto on September 12th. I need a place to crash for a few days as I work my way into getting set up. If you can help me out please get at me immediately it would be greatly appreciate and am more than willing to help you out in return.

hellogoodbye 197,974 Posted September 14, 2008 how was the move?
KyleFall 8,492 Posted September 14, 2008 I have no job, no apartment and no place to stay. I have lots of money saved but at this rate it's going to dry up fast. No idea where I'm sleeping tonight probably a hotel. I thought I was going to have a little more wiggle room with my accomodations, and I was under the impression I was going to be given contact info for a job opportunity. It's pretty hard to line up an apartment when you don't have a job/address/place to live. I've been kind of a burden to the people of Toronto so far so I may just hang in a hotel for a couple of days and probably fly home.
hellogoodbye 197,974 Posted September 14, 2008 shit dood so quick? it's only been a couple days right? surely it can't be that hard to get a temp job in a city like toronto?
KyleFall 8,492 Posted September 14, 2008 i don't have a place to stay man. lol. ive been trying to find sublets or apartments renting immediately, or places to stay. none of which seem to exist on September the 14th.
hellogoodbye 197,974 Posted September 14, 2008 sucks... no budget backpacker hostels or something that you could stay in on the cheap for a couple of days while looking for long-term accomodation? i hav no idea how it works in toronto but shit's got to be scary... good luck brah hope everything works out for you
KyleFall 8,492 Posted September 14, 2008 There are hostels, but I'd rather send my money than risk getting scabies or some shit. I'm pretty stressed but all of this is out of my control so I'm just going to take it in stride. Pretty bummed but I really don't think Toronto is going to start slapping me in the face with solutions to my problems.
TransparentCranium 88,872 Posted September 14, 2008 I already offered you a futon man, you still have that option. Or I guess you know, hotels and shit. Good luck.
