having decimated my cred with past two posts in this thread, i should add that destroyer two years ago was pretty damn awful

it was sort of the new pornographers extended family tour: immaculate machine opened (fun set), neko, newman and co. headlined, and destroyer played the middle set

he was horrible

his guitar (which he appeared to have borrowed from one of the immac. machine kids) was badly out of tune, his singing - not great to begin with - was worse, and he was visibly drunk (and continued to drink during his set)

not always a bad thing, but in this case it was awful

to top it all off, there were these two fucking obnoxious hipster fucks standing right in front of us who made damn sure everyone around them saw that they knew all the words to his songs

just a miserable experience

luckily, the pornos rocked it hard and washed the bad taste out of everyone's mouth

okay, i'll come clean

i went to a d**e m*****ws b**d show in high school

in my defense, i was trying to nail this one chick

i got smoked senseless for free, and a knob job

but it was a harrowing, horrific experience nonetheless

no need to star out DAVE MATTHEWS BAND! i saw him four times, enjoyed every single time 100% sober.

worst...i would have to say jessica hoop. She opened for the polyphonic spree. Nobody was into her and she was so high.

pretty much every rap concert you can possibly go to. you go to see a method man concert or an eminem concert or 50 cent concert your garuntee you'll see him up there with 5 to 20 of his friends singing along with him walking around stage with a towl and their hands over their dicks like they forgot to take a piss before they started screaming in a distorted mic saying "yeah, uhhh, yeah, come on ect."

i remember i went to the eminem "anger managment" show in san diego and that sound clarity was pretty good actually cuz the words were all lip sung by Eminem. never thought dude would do lipsinging for a whole concert but he did.

U2 - Zoo TV Tour @ Foxboro Stadium:

The tix were given to me, so I thought why not?

Well, they were literally the worst seats in the whole stadium. Last row.

I don't think I ever heard Bono, just meatheads singing along.

There was a 3 second delay from the video screen to when the sound actually reached me.

Terrible.

Similarly, Kings of Leon... 3 weeks ago @ The Forum in L.A. Big shows suck. I've seen 'em a few times and enjoyed their shows. They just have too many douchebags as their fan base now... And some of those new songs are so bad it hurts my soul.

Lastly,

Mazzy Star @ The Paradise... Maybe around 1996?

No lights, note for note off the album, and not one word spoken to the audence. 45 mins and it was done. Totally soulless.

Oddly enough my worst two concerts came from to amazing live bands not thanks to the venues they had chosen.

Modest Mouse at Sound Academy Toronto - the massive brawl that broke out when I assume some meathead looked at another meatheads girlfriend. Nothing says a good time like having to watch some kid get his head kicked over and over.

Animal Collective at Sound Academy - Fuck I hate that venue.

Animal Collective at Sasquatch 09 sucked ballsacks (at least 80% because of the techies). The set up had one of them (can't remember which) hidden behind the other two from all angles but head on, the sound was massively too loud so it was just a wall of noise and you couldn't make out each sound, and it was daytime so everyone was hot as fuck and too tired to dance or anything. I definitely want to see them play at an indoor venue

Oh, and I'd also have to put Kings of Leon up there too, although due to no fault of theirs. I had been in the pit at the main stage from 325 and they started their set a bit after 10. Was dehydrated as fuck, so tired, hot and nasty (had to wash the shirt I was wearing 3 times in order to get the nasty brown other-peoples-sweat stains out) and then they had strobe lights and somehow I got stuck in the middle of a retarded hipster idiots pretending they were drunk or on drugs or whatever. Had to duck out when they played Four Kicks because at that point I could barely stand, the rest of the festival was pretty fucking amazing though

hmmm, sounds like the cocteau twins show i saw (not that i like the cocteau twins but they were headlining for galaxie 500)

Guided by Voices when I was like a sophomore in college; it was in a shack, literally, and Robert finished a fifth of Cuervo while onstage. The whole show fucking shit.

really? what tour? i saw them a bunch of times around vampire / b1000 and they killed it. he was drinking the rolling rock that was on their rider at the time

my worst show was the swirlies (headlining for pitchblende), first off they were just a horrible band, secondly they stopped like every song to tune their guitars for five minutes while the singer made "ironic" comments about how bad they sucked. it's like "no dude, you really do suck and you're making this experience unimaginably awful."

[after catching up on the rest of the thread]

brian wilson "Pet sounds" redux. just awful. sold off my beach boys boxsets and i just can't seem to recover. brian's keyboard obviously wasn't even plugged in as he swung his arms up and down like a marionette.

agreed it wasn't the best, which so does not explain why the similar tour for smile was so great.

Aphex Twin. Hands down.

Fucker came on stage, turned on his DAT machine then lay down and went to

sleep. No joke.

this reminds me of bernhard guenther at the table of the elements festival in chicago. he does really really quiet experimental music (like you have to turn off your refrigerator or you'd miss something) and brought in these special speakers to play in the middle of a smallish rock club, set up in the middle for full surround effect. so we all stood around him while he loaded the cd player, pressed play and looking stoic while being completely drowned out by crowd chatter and one dude ten feet away from him heckling him.

not the most well thought out performance i've ever heard of

I also saw KOL a few weeks ago and I was upset, too.

I didn't go to see a million sorority chicks belt out sex on fire and then shout out the words to songs with lyrics they aren't too sure of.

I've seen them twice before and had an awesome time.. So sad..

I also saw Ra Ra Riot a few weeks ago. They were really bad. My boyfriend kept blaming it on the venue which is known for poor sound quality, but Maps and Atlases played right before RRR and they sounded FANTASTIC..
