he was talking to me. blm14 = Benjamin Leigh May (14 because I was the 14th person with the initials blm to be assigned an email address at columbia - yes I'm unimaginative in my selection of usernames)

ahhh. I would probably be thanking Bill though since he offered his shoes up to edmond, uh I mean demonito.

Cross Posted from the newly formed Moccasin thread over in SuperShopper.... When will those fashion-boys stop with their "rugged boot" threads over there and just start posting here..... wait....maybe I should be careful what I wish for.....

Moccasin fans unite!!

Will throw in www.Yuketen.com , www.RussellMoccasin.com and www.CarlDyers.com into the mix

At the moment I'm wearing my Yuketen hunt boots in brown Chromexel with raw rubber soles. Definitively the softest, cushiest, most forgiving shoes I have every worn in my life....

The hand stitched rubber soles have these really thick oval pads of extra rubber under-heel and forefoot. These are soft, silent and bouncy to wear

I need to learn how to weld, then I won't need to depend on anyone else when building motorcycles.

I'm thinking of selling my Snuff Suede Alden Indy's, 8.5 D. I know it's lame posting it here but if anyone is interested. They sold for $450, special run, no longer available.

Fresco, good job on selling your's so quickly.

Some Important Alden news.

The price list for Alden Boot maker was sent out to all dealers recently, and as of March 1st the price of the 405 boot will be 350$. Alden has increased their wholesale price. With the previous batch of boots, they attempted to use cheaper leather ,in the end these boots proved to be faulty. There's a rumored recall on boots from the previous run. I can't confirm this. So DON'T quote me on it.

I've been jumping though hoops to get a new pair of Alden in the right size and of good quality, so I've broken down and switched to red wing. Going to the RedWing Dealer on Saturday and picking up a pair of Iron Rangers hopefully.

at least they seem to be rectifying the problem. price increase seams lame. I wonder if the Giesche price will increase accordingly - 320->350 = 270->300

I wonder how one would determine his shoes to be part of the potential recall. I already sent back one pair made out of that crumby leather...

Yeah. He has to raise the price to 300.

would be really nice to find out what exactly they are. definitely none of the above, even though there are similarities to both shoes.

probably i have to browse some old service boot galleries :-) with these movie guys you never know whether it is an original, a replica or brand new label stuff.

all the rest he wears is supposed to be made for the movie by big labels though.

hi,

does anybody know which boots benjamin button is wearing as an old fart in the church scene? the scene where he walks the first time.

thx,

tt

I was wondering the same thing when I saw the movie. I wouldn't be surprised if they were Japanese repros.

If we could some how contact Jacqueline West I'm sure she could tell us. She was the costume designer for the movie.

The first thing I thought when I saw that scene in the movie was where I could get those boots. I'm not as well-versed in vintage boots as most people here, but that is exactly what I'm looking for (are the called Engineer boots?). The leather color is a perfect dark brown and the front toe is low profile, not bulbous like the gentleman traveler. I was looking at getting a budget pair so I looked at the LL Bean katahdin (but don't like the cap toe) and the Frye Arkansas (but the toe is bulbous). If anybody knows of a similar pair as the Benjamin button ones, any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's the 502 medical boot.

http://www.aldenshoe.com/cat_ortho_spe_502.htm

They are not service boots.

I have a Blu-Ray screener DVD of Benjamin Button, its obvious on that copy that the heel "cup" area has stitching on the outside and is not a separate piece of leather like the m-43 boot. The m43 also has eyelets all the way up, the BBBoot has speed hooks.

Its very possibly they are old new stock.

When i was on the Kingdom of the Crystal skull set, almost every pair of shoes that were being worn by the extras were being rented out to Lucas Film by a costuming company that was contracted by Bernie Pollack for the film. All the shoes were new old stock Sears and Montgomery Ward boots.

If I had pictures I would not have seen them. I was dressed in 1950's clothing I had collected. Touting a camera would have given away my cover....:P

wanted to post these because i ran into them on eBay and had never seen them before. They're also a Spokane boot, and they look to me like they were made in the same factory (or at least the with same process) as White's. Anybody got any word on Nick's?
