Shoes that look better with age...

Those Knapps seem like A&F trying to cash in on vintage boots. I bet they marked them up x 10. Great looking pair of old boots!

A&F have been purveying expensive duds to rich prats for a long, long time. Those were likely sold as something like a sporting motorcycle boot and paired with khaki jodhpurs. Not vintage, but then current (which is now vintage).

isn't abercrombie over 100 years old?

anyway, julian's boots are looking really good. he seems to be making shoes that i like more. sort of a mix between the context boot and semi dress. digging them!

just waxed my SD laces tonight. Seems to do the trick. I ran bees wax on my laces then ran them under a hair dryer on high. The wax them melted into them and they have a nicer, thicker feel now.

the same could be said for most brands worshipped in superdenim.

I still don't get the fascination with those....

thanks for reminding me! Got my Lotus resoled by John Rushton on Wimpole Street. They did a very good job. £75; it's a good deal if you\re in London. Crastestbrummie had his Lotus done, ultimately, by Koko's - good shoe shops will often send in to them, in which case it works out cheaper with the shipping, but Koko's charge £80 if you bring them in yourself.

as for the boots - these were on my feet throughout the snow. No leaks. Walked out into the oyster beds on the Kent coast this week. No leaks. I like Whites, but I don't think I would have done it in those.

The boots look great. They are not lotus though are they?

Let's not try and make it a white's vs lotus battle here. I never doubted the waterproofness of them, I commented on the unappealingness of the leather of lotus shoes.

But I'm sure there are plenty of loggers and upland firefighters who would testify as to the performance of white's who don't spend their time photographing their shoe porn for sufu kudos like members of this thread (me included)....

agreed, too, on your leather comments. if i were to be in the market for a decent (english) boot with visibly high-quality leather, i'd head to crockett & jones before many other bootmakers (well, the ones in my price range, at least).

tricker's leather on their boots these days doesn't seem as good as it used to be, although that could just be on their more recent lah-dee-dah collaborations. i rate their gorse calf though; shame not many makers seem to use it these days.

Yeah I've said the same many times.

Crockett hides are definitely a higher grade than Trickers. Their shoes look nicer too in my opinion. I've not handled sargent for a long time.

My favorite scotch/zug grained boot is the coniston for sure. Trickers C-shade gorse is ok. A bit to orangey though. And I have a pair.

Very nice Max, there is some unwarranted snobbery against Red Wings sometimes, and seeing beautifully worn boots like yours restores my faith a little :)

comparing my old favorite c&j skye and my recent alfred sargent holburn, i would have to say that a.s. really stepped their game up. the a.s. exclusive line is on par with c&j's main line. however, a.s. handgrade and c&j handgrade is night and day. so is the price.

Ask and you shall receive. I think these were made when a&f was still catering to old farts.

looks like old farts to me. I don't think they use that logo anymore

That AF logo looks vintage to me. I'm sort of a sucker for that 40s, 50s, and 60s Abercrombie stuff. I pick it up whenever I find it thrifting or at vintage stores. Best sweater I own is a 50s wool Abercrombie sweater I found for $10 at Savers.
