^You should use boot oil or a special leathersole oil for maintaining leather soles. Afaik (Red Wing-) Mink oil isn't good for the threads, but maybe this is just gossip. And if you want to take careof your GT's, give them once or twice a year a boot oil care (apply just a bit oil) and use otherwise frequently a real good shoecream (Burgol is the best I know). And yeah, 9016's are still on my list too :-)

I've seen a lot on here about ATF's roughouts, but I have never seen their Service Shoe posted. So, I thought I'd post some pics of mine after about six months of use, give or take.

And my White's Farmer Rancher 6" in Red Dog. Haven't worn them yet, and these pics are after 1 coat of Obenauf's LP.

He has small feet. Don't point it out, he's self-conscious.

photobucket ftw? i need to post pics of my indies soon. i think theyre aging well. only 4 months but a concert with 500 people stepping on me and running every so often for a short time made them need to be shined, which is great.

^^That high ass instep strap looks so bizarre to me. Like when they designed the shit, they said to themselves, "How can me make this not-your-typical engineer boot? I know! A high ass weird looking instep strap!"

Everything else looks okay, though.

Ha!!! You hit the nail on the head - I've said that ALL along, but Damn!! what a great looking boot, otherwise.

Edit: They kind of look like Cowboy boots when worn with cuffed jeans - I know, I know...great photoshop, right? Don't hate!!

Yikes!! Look how high you'd have to roll your jeans up just to show the buckle (one of the appealing features of an Engineer Boot). I made the cuff red, 'cause the gray didn't show up with the light white sky background.

I want to get a pair of redwings GTs resoled... went to local shoe repair. to my suprise, they have vibram soles... but the price is quite expensive... i want to get them stitched on, but I dont think they have the machine to do it. The alternative is that when i make a trip to japan, i get them done in japan with some cat paws.... also not cheap...

which one should i go for? vibram or cat paw?

Those MF look black in the box but red/brown in the other shots?

I agree that strap is way too high...

What's going to end up happening is that the resole is going to cost almost and much as the boot itself in Tokyo. But it's going to be nice!

When you get there you have a few choices:

Takeshi Okuyama at Hukurokuju.

But his current queue is backed up. You can also try:

BRASS

They also make bespoke boots like a cap toe and balmoral oxford in black.

Unionworks

This shop has been around for a minute. They also have a good DVD on polishing that came with a recent issue of 2nd.

I'm very curious to see how these other shops fair, but they all seem to have great attention to detail.

Just a heads up for any vancouverites.

Look pretty nice and only $149

They had a bunch of size nine and no size 12s so IM SOL.

Cool, that's exactly like mine I bet, but I have a vibram sole and leather laces. Neat.
