Lone Wolf Engineer..

How do these fit?

Did you order from history preservation?

Trying to decide between these and some black Alden Indys (I know, completely different)

imo, go for he lone wolf. after i got my pair of whites, my indys have been pretty stagnent. they just don't ooze awesomeness like plenty of other boots do. i mean, i still love em, but there are better ways to spend your shoe money. also, consider these http://vintageengineerboots.blogspot.jp/2012/04/update-john-lofgren-co-engineer-boots.html

Those boots look exactly like the lone wolf engineer boots besides the welt sticking.. I rather wear the lone wolfs.

Toe profile also looks lower to me. I also have supreme confidence in John Lofgren's taste and judgement. Dude does things right.

Natural CXL from Motor in Japan (not my boots, not my photos):

Once more, this is why Baker/White's needs to get some Natural CXL.

Edit: No fucking way! Kyle, you posted that as I was composing this post. Finally!

was considering a pair of thorogoods (uni student = no red wing) but don't know if they'll just look too huge on my US13 feet or whether to go moc toe or normal toe...

white's in natural chromexcel is an interesting development. still glad i went with the distressed smooth though. i wonder if natural cxl will become available for the bounty hunter.

my experience and observations with natural cxl is that it can be rather crinkly. this is especially notable on aldens. the leather on this pair was not particularly thick, and for a rugged work boot like white's i would prefer something thicker.

on a related note, these were just posted by Ultrasound boots:

listed as "Brown oil" leather. looks a shade darker than brown cxl, but very similar in texture. curious to see more makeups in this leather in the future.

That is the sort of picture that made me dislike the natural cxl at first. To me it is a bad choice, I just don't think it suits a formal looking brogue boot at all. And those laces. Compare that with the C&J skye, which is how a tan/chestnut/brown brogue boot should be done.

Now those pictures that Hollows posted on the other hand....

although those boots were a design that i conceived, i agree with your sentiments. it was very much an impulsive decision of combining "what type of leather do i want" and "what style of boot don't i already have". it was a contrived and impractical boot.

the white's i have on order are the boots i should have bought in the first place.

fre$co, what ever became of your white's bounty hunters?

I think we are all guilty of that type of decision now and again.

My bountyhunters are now owned by obbigood, unless he sold them on. I never really got on with the fit and actually didn't really like the smooth brown leather in real life. My half size up SD that I replaced them with on the other hand are my daily go to boots for most of the year.

I sold several pairs of boots after realising that is pretty stupid ordering and owning numerous similar boots.

My collection now consists of:

White's SD - dress brown

Wesco Boss - standard black

Russell Moccasin chukkas - tan r/o

Alden cigar shell indies

C&J skye

Still too many but the last two pairs are on leather soles so don't get an awful lot of wear - in fact I could sell one of those if I could only part with them. I will add a pair of Russell bird shooters at some point.

I haven't worn my trickers in over a year but never got round to ebay listing them.

You get used to it after a while, my work boots looked huge and bulbous at first and...well, they still do, but my non safety boots in my mind seem much slighter in proportion (even if they're not). Also, I would suggest pants without a strong taper to the hem, makes a huge difference in perception.

Also, normal toe will be more versatile, especially if you're on a one boot rotation.

hmm... well you've convinced me on the whole perception thing, I wore work boots as a roofer all last year and what seemed like clown shoes at first I got used to. I guess I'll go for us12 as I have a pair of pointers in 13 that are too roomy, never bought a shoe with a size for width though... and I'm still torn between normal and moc toe. I guess thorogood is affordable enough that I can go for the normals and if I decide I like them pull the trigger on moc toes down the track too.

i know this is a little bit of a leather porn thread at the moment but here are my hand-waxed tretorn nylites after a month of wear. i decided to throw some white leather laces i had sitting around in. i'm experimenting with lacing systems.

white's grades their own leather from an entire hide. The leather will most likely be thicker on white's because of the sections they use for the uppers.

not keen on getting the skye re-soled?

you'd get a decent return on your tricker's boots on ebay at the moment...

I'll probably keep them leather as I think it suits them nicely, It is just that the spring is usually the time I wear them and... well you know what the weather has been like.

I am going to list some old stuff on the bay so yeah maybe I'll finally sling them up too.

I've never been so terrified as when I wore mine in the pissing rain in Montreal. I couldn't take a step on their smooth stone pavements without some comical cartoon style running on the spot.
