they arrived already... need a little love & care and some new laces, but they fit perfectly.

will post further pics after i've taken a brush to them...

Quoted for this page...will be interested in seeing them after a refurb :D

Remember, the story about veldt re-soling comes from tricker's, who don't favour it! For the resole everything depends on how the resole is done and how they shave/clean up the extended edge of the outers.

I will get a commando on these shoes soon, from a veldt specialist and report back. Might buy a couple of matching heel pieces, as it's those I seem to run through.

Killer b, nice job! Wearing my v shoes & boots in a field in Somerset, tramping thru cow dung, what they were made for!

You thinking of using that specialist cobbler we were discussing the other day? If so, worth noting that they're closed until 27 June - I just called to ask about whether the resoling story was correct and got a voicemail message.

I'm keen to find out as I suspect that these boots will become more and more difficult to find in the future - prices on the AS veldt seem to be dropping on a lot of sites as they clear their stock of 'old' AS in preparation for their rebirth, which would appear to be scheduled for September of this year.

Whilst waffling on about 'no more boots', I did actually source a pair of Kelso at a very good price in case I was ever unable to replace the Lotus....

cheers for the info - he's looking at getting another pair soon, so now's probably a good time to buy.

do you think they're stopping making veldt altogether with the relaunch?

Direct him towards afinepairofshoes.co.uk - they've got reduced veldt shoes on there from AS.

And I don't know, but I can't see that they'd be a popular choice, and with AS looking to concentrate on their 'Exclusive' range, then I wouldn't be suprised...

any thoughts on what i should do to these lotus btw? they don't need resoling yet, so i was just going to give them a polish and see how it looked - would you recommend any other treatments?

Saddle soap, conditioner, polish and beeswax although I think it might've been better to leave the polish till after the wax had settled. I used a hairdryer to help melt the beeswax into the seams of the boots, then again once they'd dried - helps clear any residue and also gives them a glossier look, exactly the same as rewaxing a wax jacket.

Looks like the Tricker's veldts will need a refurb soon:

And just saw these vintage 70s UK-made Doc Martens for sale:

All this, and Eatons too:

Ben, I'm still saving for Kelso/Selkirk MTO I mentioned before. I kind of worry that AS might discontinue the Veldt line and focus on the luxury line so yeah more dilemma

Afinepairofshoes has pretty good deal on the AS Veldts too (at least for the US buyer), I hope the big sizes will stay available for later, they seem to have all big sizes all the time.

Hi guys need some help here.. Can obenauf lp be applied to the redwings gt? I have read in the redwing website that featherstone leather should be cleaned with leather cleaner then polish with shoe creme to give it the shine.. Is there a 'correct' way to go about taking care of the rw gt? Ive have read in thread about people polishing their gt with obenauf lp..

You're all mixed up. Obenauf's is an oil that penetrates and conditions the leather, keeping it from becoming brittle. It is similar to Pecard's or any other product that calls itself a conditioner, though each has different qualities. A polish is a mix of waxes designed to sit on top of the leather after being applied and take on a shine after buffing.

Get yourself some stiff horsehair brushes. Use one to brush off any dirt or grit clinging to the boots at the end of the day. If you want to polish them, pick up a tin of Kiwi (bleh) or Angelus in an appropriate color at your local pharmacy or shoe store. Draw the polish from the tin by rubbing it briskly with a sponge slightly damp with hot water and apply to the leather. Try a few coats, mix colors, burnish the toe, go hog wild. After the wax has sat for ten minutes, buff it with a horsehair brush to bring out the shine.

If you want to condition or waterproof the leather, then you look to products like Obenaufs, Pecards and Snoseal. Once is usually enough to last a year or more.

Alright thanks! Am I right to say its not necessary to oil my brand new gt if i just got them? Cos ive seen people's classic round redwings boot's colour changed when they oiled them.. Whats the point of getting the boots in that specific colour in the first place then?

Just to clear out some possible doubts here.

When people mention Obenaufs they usually refer to Heavy duty LP. (which is their star product)

Obenaufs LP heavy duty is a leather protector.Foreign substance repeller.

Good for water proofing.

Then there is Obenaufs leather oil which indeed is a conditioner.
