anyone pick up lvc 1944 from cultizm recently? just curious how accurate their information. im 33,5 in wasit, they suggest me to get w36 if i'd soak them with hot water, or w34 with cold water. is it possible to get w33 or w33, due to their oversize post-soak-measurement? thanks in advance! your experience and suggestion will be useful :)

Unless the size 34 actually measures 34" (which it probably doesn't, I'd be willing to bet it's closer to 36"), you're probably going to want to go with a tagged size 32 or 33.

ok, I appreciate this is quite specialist but this is really annoying me...does anyone know why some 506XX (type 1) jackets have a vertical seam running down the back and some don't??? I have seen this feature on both 30's and 40's silver and bronze buckle models most commonly without the seam... doesn't seem to be any consistency which I find strange for such a classic jacket design. Maybe LVC have picked up on this? do the LVC jackets have the vertical seam?

Hi BGB, in answer to this question:

The reason for the back seam on 506 xx jackets may have something to do with Loom width? I'm not certain of this, but all the centre back seam type 1's I have seen are a size 46" and up.

For example - http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649

I actually used to own an original model with this feature, (which before the advent of the internet were VERY rare), unfortunately it is now long sold on as the sleeves were just too short for my gangly arms.

Interestingly, I also found this 507xx in a size 46 with the backseam, which I have never seen in all my years of trawling/thrifting -

[edit] The Lvc 506's and 507's have never used this feature, probably due to the expense as it would only be used on their size 48". Saying that, the early (valencia street produced) 1st lined pleated blouse did use this feature, a very nice touch if I might add -

Not that it really helps answer the seam question but I remember seeing John Wayne wearing a 506 in one of his films that had a seam in the back. It was the first time I'd seen that. I would guess that he would wear a pretty big jacket and that would tie in with what dr heech just wrote.

Thanks for the answers guys, @heech I think your theory is probably the most logical one! saying that I have two 506's (44" chest mind) without the seam. Its also worth noting that the top 2 most watched jackets on eBay currently have the back seam (the item in the link you posted is what prompted me to investigate as blanket lined type1's rarely come up!)

Dr Heech, accidentally negged you with my clumsy fingers on my iPhone. Apologies, someone correct this and pos rep for me.

No worries Martin, pos rep/neg rep - it all seems so meaningless on the 5.0 as you cant post a comical follow-up :)

Done. Great post, Dr!

Many thanks Paul, although wasn't sure of the 'loom width' element to that reply - thought you may add to this bit as you are so knowledgable on these things. It just made some sort of sense to me as this feature only ever shows up on sizes 46" and up(?)

why can't they let us in the UK purchase LVC - booo booo

You can, just for the same rrp that you'll find them for in the UK!

That'll be why my size 46" 1955s have a join in the waistband then!

Edit: first time I've used multiquote!

Do most models of LVC have the smae pockets depth? I have only tried on two pair, one pair of 67s in a Philly store over the summer, and a pair of well shrunk 47s size 34 (which are for sale), and I don't remember the 67s pockets being very shallow, but these 47s are too shallow for me. I have big hands and like to keep things in my pockets (shocking I guess). I am looking at a pair of 66s and don't want to get a pair that won't fit my pockets needs

thanks folks

Hmmm, interesting. My pairs, from what I remember:

  • 37's: shallow pockets
  • 44's: large pockets
  • 47's: regular pockets
  • 54's: regular pockets
  • 55's: a bit shallower
  • 66's: shallow pockets
  • 83's: regular pockets

I'll add - 1890: tiny opening and very shallow pockets

Yeah, even my 1890's from 2005, which imo are the best year for that model (accuracy-wise) have shallow pockets.

I also recall the 1915's and 1917's havin g shallow pockets.

The worst recent thing (since the 1917's were made (2008/9?) is the smaller size leather patch. It's not that noticable at first, but when you compare the recent 1890, 1915, 1917, and now the 1922 models patches to any other year (or model, including earlier 1890 or 1901), they are 5-6mm smaller all round.

I pointed this out to the Cinch manager a couple of years ago as they had all the models lined-up, and he was dumbfounded.

No wonder they all defected to RRL around the corner.

My 66's and 47's have the same 'regular' pocket depth, I can get my whole average sized hand in them. The 44's are the same depth but a little wider. 15's tiny pockets, 201's (555 version) big pockets and the 1878 'loons are huge.

While on the subject of pockets, the one thing I don't like on some LVC (and Leepro) models is that the denim piece that forms the back of the pocket isn't very deep and this means that some of the pocket bag material pokes out all the time at the inner corner. It annoys me. None of the JP repro's I've got have this problem.

There's acually a real variety in the originals - the shape of the watch pocket, its positioning, and the shape and size of the piece of denim behind it, varies a lot through the years.

Yup, my 1890s and 1901 pockets are shallow... altho I like the watch pockets. I'm not particularly impressed with LVC pocket fabric, though, I find mine wear out by 10 months in.
