congrats serkis , you gonna soak 'em right away or wear 'em a while?

Thanks Doug, I am going to soak em. I've read the "soak-em vs no-soak" and seen great results both ways but will soak em because of the lack of belt loops the 36 inch waist will be a lil big. 34inches post soak then a slight stretch to 35 would be idea but we'll see.

One thing that Im curious about is wearing them everyday. I see some of you write about your "rotation". What do your "rotations" consist of...2,3,5 pairs or more. I ask because now that i have 2 pairs of lvc and a couple other jeans that ive been working on (a pair of '47 pwr's I got for $15 and a cheaper pair of raw selvage jeans i got for $12) but still wannt to make the most of my LVC's.

since "rotation" has come up...

I've been wearing heavily my 33's about 3-7 times per week. I try to break it up with my 47's since they have much more fades to them and it keeps people from thinking I'm wearing the same pair of jeans 24/7.

I forget I have my 55's in there too.. so every now and again I try to fit them in. Then I forgot about my 37's and they're getting maybe 1-2 days per month if I remember...

It's tough to have too many jeans... not to mention the stack of regular levis just sitting there that I use to wear a few years ago...

You really only need a few pairs... and have one pair that looks different than your other pairs so people don't think you're weird wearing the same pair...

heaven's if they ever found out how many times we wash them....

IT looks the same as all the early labels to me - only the leather seems to differ, some are whiter, some have a different cut edge, some have a crappy antiqued finish, but they all have the same lettering - whether or not it's appropritte, which of course, on the '1873' jeans, it ain't.

Thanks Paul. I was assuming that he was questioning the authenticity of that particular LVC item based on the tag. When it comes to its actual historical accuracy, I have no idea.

Hey Paul, do you know if LVC is getting a worldwide release of mid-Feb???? Supposed US stockists of the upcoming collection have been pretty silent or at least pretty vague about availability.

BLM

Jacket looks legit, same as the one I used to have (sold it before chrimbo).

As Paul says, some are white, some antiquated or shiny(this one), some dark brown/unreadable (Knappave), and some embossed. Some also have the size hand written (in authentic felt-tip pen!).

I have never seen pix of the original, so I'm doubtfull that one exists. Although the earliest 1879 handbill from the Ls&co archives has a drawing of this jacket on it (Plus the original lined waistcoat).

I mean, why would Levis make a two pocket jacket in 1879, then in 1899 make a one pocket(506) then bring out a two pocket jacket (507) fifty years later??

You gonna post comparison pics of those 1873's (natties and synthetics)?

The EP-1 is a different kind of camera (micro-4/3rds) vs a normal point & shoot and definitely more expensive, however this is all a conversation for the Best Non-DSLR Camera thread I s'pose

Just want to end this camera conversation by saying thanks for all your help/suggestions guys, but for a bloke earning well under 20K a year, all these suggestions are well out of my price range at present.

Have had a few non-digital SLR's in the past, but bought a Samsung point and shoot (originally cost £120) which my lovely Ex-wife has just informed me I can have back (as She is spending my child maintenance on a new camera...bless), so no need to spend any more £££.

It's a good little number, bought with taking pix of my little boy and something simple to use for the Ex (at the time) in mind.

Will hopefully fire off a few of some Lvc's and my M-422 v.soon.

Hahah I got a G11. I used to have the G8 which I LOVED but it couldnt shoot raw which is why I opted for the G11...

I wish I could afford a Leica M9

You and me both. I am selling my M3 and G9 to get the £££ for a Panasonic GF1, the next best thing. Look for superior denim porn from me soon-ish.

THose Cone jeans have cropped up before- Cone pushed their jeans under their own name in the 30s and the 50s. There is no connection with Levi's except for the fact that Cone made the fabric for the 501 too. Somewhere I have the COne anniversary brochure that I think mentions them or has photos, I'll take a look.

See the problem is Paul that I (like you) grew up with film cameras. And one of the advantages to me at least of the Leica digital cameras are that they've realized that menu-driven camera functions suck. You have HUGE amounts of controls on the body that basically mimic the original film-based exposure controls. I see junk like this:

menus.gif

recmenu.gif

custommenu.gif

and I want to do this:

ZQDdESWAo7c

Not implying that the controls on the G11 are much better, but at least I'm a little familiar with them from the G8. Basically the M8/M9 have the best controls I've ever seen on a digital camera AND fucking incredible images like this:

But I digress. Off to take some pix of the two 1873 jeans now. Up shortly

Apologies in advance for the picture heavy posts. The natural indigo is DR Heech's pair, which I have soaked and worn a couple of times. The synthetic indigo version is still in a completely raw state. The hang tag on the synthetic version said "125" which when you consider that 1873 + 125 = 1998, that makes a lot of sense. :) Also apologies in advance for the just so-so image quality. Light today where I am is a little weird.

Ok, so here are the back pockets:

and just for schnizngigglz, sugarcane SC40400N compared to the natural indigo - the denim is VERY similar except the SCs are more slubby and streaky, but the coloring is really close. Canes on the bottom in both:
