Alternate, stylish and / or cheap ski wear

I'm thinking of going on a last minute ski trip this winter (I'm living in Tokyo and all my friends are doing Hokkaido).

As someone who's not skied for a long time, the thought of spending hundreds of pounds of ugly ski wear is making me sick. I know this is super OCD and retarded but I can't help the way I think.

Is it an option to buy a "normal" warm, waterproof jacket? I was thinking something like an Alpha Industries flight jacket.

Does anyone do budget (and still warm) ski trousers? Uniqlo? I can't say I've seen any.

Any other thoughts? I don't want to spend so much on stuff that looks terrible (ALL ski wear I've seen looks horrid) and that I only use a couple of times a year.
