they are they captoes from jcrew, cordovan #8 on a barrie last.

I'll post some more shots of the whites soon, I took a bunch with my phone while I was waiting for a friend at a movie theater, but they are cap toes, single trim, leather sole on the swing last, in black chromexcel.

you know that chromexcel is NOT horsehide, right?

hmm r u sure they are the horsehide SD's joel? because I don't think the chromexcel offered by bakers is HH and I think you have to get a lining for the HH SD's which doesn't seem like yours has...

wgmds got to it first... on another note, I've noticed that my HH SD's have a particularly strong fukn leather smell

Baldy, upload a scent file or I don't believe they smell that strong. ;)

I love the smell of my Road Champs. They smell like heaven to me.

Edit: what do you guys think of these? The price is unbeatable...

Anyone seen these yet?

http://www.amazon.com/Thorogood-Mens-Boerum-Horsehide-Leather/dp/B006XGG8OC

http://www.amazon.com/Thorogood-Mens-Vinegar-Horsehide-Leather/dp/B006XGGC8E

Apparently made just for Highkickz. I've seen the Thorogood 685s and I'm not sure what the major differences are here but $180 seems pretty reasonable for horsehide American made footwear. May just have to pick up a pair and get in on this contest.

I was just looking at these the other day and had the same exact thought process. Very tempting!

I just posted an ebay link 2 days ago to those Thorogoods and no one replied. :( But seriously, that is super duper cheap for what your buying. I think I'm going to pick up the black pair when I get back from LA this month. The only reason for waiting is in case I happen upon something better in LA. USA made boots for $180!

did you see the cuts and discolored bits on the side of the boot as their show pics... what up with that?

The horsehide that Thorogood uses is B grade at best. At the price they're asking I can't really argue, but I'd recommend a bit of modification to the leather if there's an obvious cosmetic defect on the vamp (like there was on mine...see top of this page)

Yeah that is kind of a bummer. I presume they don't typically ship that way but I really don't understand why they'd use that pair as their example when they probably have 100 others.

Mike, I'm sure it's a lower quality leather than say, Alden or Trickers or any of the higher end guys use but I agree that it's tough to complain at that price point. What kind of modifications are you refering to specifically?

Removing the original finish as well as dyeing the leather, then resealing it. This should cover any cosmetic imperfections :)
