Pure Blue Japan

So I thought it might be good to start a new thread for Pure Blue Japan denim as a whole instead of having sepperate threads for each individual model. If anybody has anything they think I left out just pm me.

Pure Blue Japan is a Japanese clothing company that specializes in jeans but also carries other types of clothing. Pure Blue Japan jeans are easily purchased through Blue in Green SoHo, or by using a proxy from Japan. No PBJ jeans have acruates right now, but instead will have a small embroidered indigo leaf on the left edge of the back right pocket. PBJ jeans are usually avalible in both raw and one-wash form, depending on where you are purchasing them from. Most of the jeans will have an inseam varying from 32-34.5 inches, so do not expect much stacking.

PBJ Jean Models:

Al-001: The denim for this jean is dyed with natural indigo, as opposed to synthetic which is used on most jeans. It is much heavier than the other pbj denim, coming in at 18.5 ounces. The fit is similar to that of the XX-03/6, meaning they are somewhat loose and vintage fitting. They are also very slubby. These will retain their color for longer than the other pbj's, but if you are patient and want a pair of jeans that will fade into something beautiful, this is what you want. They are avalible in even sizes from 26-42.

XX-003: This jean has a vintage straight fit. It is made out of PBJ’s well known 14.5 ounce super slubby denim, which has an indigo warp and white weft. They are produced in sizes 25-34, and then 36, 38, 40, and 42. It is avalible in indigo only.

XX-004: This jean is a slim through the waist to knees, but then it widens out into a bootcut fit. It is made using the same slubby 14.5 ounce denim that is used in the XX-003 and XX-005 models. It flared out from the inside of the leg, which means the selvedge line is still intact. This is also avalible only in indigo. They are offered in sizes 28-34, and then 36.

XX-005: Their most popular slim fit jean. It is slim like the XX-004 through the thigh to knee, but then remains as a straight fit from the knee to hem. This means that the knee is exactly the same size as the hem. This is also made out of the slubby denim. This is the only pair that is avalible in both black & indigo. They are made in sizes 28-34, and then 36.

Here’s an example of headtowall’s pair after about a year or so of wear.

XX-006: This jean has a vintage fit, which is similar to that of the XX-03. It is, however, made of a different denim. This denim is lighter in color and weight than the denim that is used for the XX-003/4/5 models. First of all, it is 13.5 ounces instead of 14.5. Also, it uses alternating medium indigo and lightish medium indigo threads to give it an overall vintage & streaky look. It is also non-slubby. It ages into a more vintage looking denim. The denim is weaved using vintage, low-tech techniques. They are offered from size 25-34, and then 36, 38, 40, and 42.

XX-007: This is a very nice jean with the same slim fit as the XX-005. It is different, however, due to not only having an indigo warp, but also having an indigo weft. It created a very deep indigo denim which appears black in dim lighting, but is blue under sunlight. The denim itself is very slubby as well. The stitching on this jean is different from all of the others because of it being black, as opposed to yellow or orange. They are avalible in sizes 28-34, and then 36.

XX-008: This jean is made of the same streaky denim as the XX-006. It is different, however, due to its slim, XX-005/7 fit. It is offered from size 28-34, and then 36.

XX-009: This is the vintage, looser fit version of the XX-007. It is made with the exact same slubby, dual indigo denim. It is offered in sizes 25-34, as well as 36, 38, 40, and 42.

BiG doesn’t actually sell this pair of jeans, so a proxy is the best bet if you need these.

Also, thanks a lot BiG and PBJ for the information I used to create this thread.

That would be great! What's your height/weight as well? Fit pics? I'm thinking about getting a pair for my dad for fathers day. He loves my 007's, but they would be too slim for him. I haven't seen any pictures of somebody wearing them, but if you have them and they look like they would fit him well, i might have to go for it.

At first, i didnt like the feel of the denim, I like that crispy, stiff feeling. But when I got into those bad boys, they felt real good. I picked up the XX-05, size 33. They were really tight and i could hardly button them, but after a few wears they became perfect. I didnt give them the cold soak or anything though.

Wow @ these XX-003 pictures from the PBJ website... totally different from some of the examples we've seen on the forum.

Google translate is kinda hard to understand, but it sounds like they were washed every 3-4 weeks? Here's a link if anyone can make some sense out of it. More pictures there too.

Wow.. Great job midnight! I was just wondering, after reading through the PBJ xx-05 thread that people often say that their PBJs don't stretch much. Contrary to that, my xx-05BKs stretched from a 32 to a current 34. I am a true 32-33 by the way and I do wear a belt. Anyone has the same experience? So many people claim that their PBJs hardly stretched.. And recommendations state that one should size UP to avoid their thighs being deprived of blood.

Edit: By the way, I got mine from the PBJ shop where everything is one wash, IIRC.

I'm really glad to hear of other people's bk's stretching out so much. Gives me hope. I've subconsciously been afraid I got too small a size. (usually a 34, got a 33.) I mean, they fit GREAT right now, but that's only because when I soaked them in the tub I was wearing them. I hope they don't shrink past my being able to get in them once I actually wash them down the road.

Well, according to my experience, it would be safe and preferable to size down one to account for the stretching.. It's a safe middle ground. This is purely my subjective experience. Some people may be concerned about the thighs but this is a slim fit jeans. I would think that the waist would be the most important thing. If someone's thighs can't fit, then perhaps the xx-003 and similar cuts would be a better bet. Just saying..

good idea to condense all the diff pbj thread. we need more wear pics of the 006/008 denim. my 008 have faded alot quicker than i though they would and i think ive only seen a couple of reasonably faded 006's.

My 008's that i bought recently have honeycombs set in them reallly fast already after just a few wears. I think they are going to end up fading really nicely. I can take some more up close pictures when i get home tomorrow night.

I have a pair of the xx-009s: they're amazing. I can post pix here if desired...

Please do.

Does anyone know of a sizing chart for the xx-003 or xx-009? The BiG one only covers a few sizes. Can't find any full measurement specs on the official website either.

When my fiance comes home I will ask her to take some fitment pix and I will also take some of the jeans laying flat...

Measurements here:

Altho my pair came already one-washed and I suspect those measurements are pre-wash...

I've been considering buying a pair of XX-05's off BiG for a while.

But this isn't going to be easy. I'm only 14, and my dad's in the way. I made the whole $225 I need for the purchase, and I've done my research to find the perfect size, and I know all I need to know. And I know once I show them to him, he's going to think I'm insane andkeep me from buying them. Hell, I had trouble buying $50 Levi's 511 Rigid with him. : /

Do you guys think you could help me out a bit and give me reasons for why they are worth the price?

This could be difficult. I'm 14 as well so i know what you mean. My parents don't really care how i spend my money, but they still will judge. Just don't really try to bring it up, and if you have to say that they are...

-going to fade very nicely

-will be worn for almost a full year

-are made of quality denim that won't rip too easily

-they fit you very well.

Don't forget to mention how you were the one who saved up all of the money and did all of the research before this purchase. All of this combined should be able to win him over, but even if he still gives you shit, do it. Don't let the opinions of others affect what you want to do, and what will make you happy. Also, they're parents. Eventually they will come around. They will always love you as well. A single pair of jeans won't really change anything at all in the end.

i have a pair of xx005 that I have had for about a year and a half. Don't wear them that much.. maybe a couple of times a fortnight. Will put up some pics. I think I have given them one cold wash in organic soap.

I got a 28 - I am 28 in everything - and these things were soo tight for such a long time. They didn't really stretch that much untill after i washed them, they were tight as hell directly after the wash but after wearing for just a little they stretched quickly and more so then in their raw state.

Unless your dad's a denimhead, I really doubt there'll be anything you can say to him about that'll convince him to let you spend over $200 on a pair of jeans...It's really something he'll have to appreciate (through pictures, going through the process himself, learning about denim, etc) himself if you want to truly be okay with it...

I wish my XX-005s would stretch in the calfs...The top block has stretched out quite a bit so it's fairly comfortable, but the pair still looks pretty skinny as knee down it's still all tight.
