BS United Oni Denim Pics

Despite originally getting a bashing Oni make some nice jeans and their denims are good for hotter weather,  even the heavier ones. (The 14oz is trash though)

I've sized down on all 3 pairs I've owned as there is a lot of stretch

About 19 weeks of progress on my 546zr Black Secret Denim Oni’s. These are entered in DWC2 so cant wait to see how these turn out in 2 years.

Also just got on Friday the new Aizumi’s to add into the rotation. You can see the color against the black 546’s...they are inky but not black. Will be a fun wear as well.

I copped a pair of Oni 246 Kiwami natural indigo rope dyed f/ Denimio. I've been kinda intrigued by Oni for years, have seen a pair here and there that sorta interested me, but this pair checked a lot of boxes for me. The cut is really good, straight w/ just the right amount of taper. The details are clean, simple, straight forward, nothing trying to be unique and stand out. Lemon yellow and orange threads. Simple red selvedge ID. Unlined back pockets. No tucked belt loops. No selvedge fly. Peek-a-boo selvedge at coin pocket. Front pocket openings are great, as are the pocket bag depth. And the denim is beautiful - natural indigo, but rope dyed as opposed to hank dyed, so the yarns aren't dyed to the core and will fade. @Foxy2 I think you'd like this pair.

My gripe is sizing, as usual. These are raw, size 33. I didn't want (another) tight pair. Denimio's size chart was about 1/2 size off. Their waist measurement stated 35.83, actual size measured their way w/ front and back aligned is 35.0. I was hoping these would fit like the fit pics AFTER being shrunk. No idea how much this denim will shrink/stretch. Not sure if I'm gonna try to exchange or keep them.

Measurements, raw / washed (inside out - cold soak, hot wash, low spin, hot dryer for 15 minutes, hang until dry; all shrink should be gone):

Waist, straight across: 17.0/34.0" - 16.5"/33.0"

Waist, aligned front and back: 17.5/35.0" / 16.75"/33.5"

Front rise: 12.5" / 11.75"

Back rise: 15.5" / 14.5"

Thigh @ crotch: 13.375" / 12.25"

Thigh @ 2" down: 12.25" / 11.5"

Knee @ 14" down: 9.125" / 8.75"

Hem: 7.875" / 7.25"

Inseam: 36.75" 35.0"

Sorry for the crummy fit pic lighting; I don't have a decent place to take good pics ATM...

@DeafKate yeah, I agree. Most of Oni's stuff doesn't appealed to me that much, although I find them interesting. They've been pumping out so many different denims, in their high-rise loose tapered cut that I don't care for at all. This 246 Kiwami run has enough of what I'm looking for that I was willing to spit for them.  I haven't washed these yet so I don't know how much they'll shrink. If/when I do I'll post measurements.

@mpukas - yes, those look interesting with those 2 different tones of indigo and they look reasonably straight cut. Nice price point, too.

the 2 tones remind me of Eternal 877, while the fuzzy yarns are similar to some Sugar Cane’s...

DC4 in BC Berlin seems to have them - maybe I’ll take a look in person.

I washed the 246 Kiwami's and have added the post-wash measurements to the original post above. Shrinkage was what I consider "typical", whatever that is

The denim was VERY stiff and crunchy once dry. The color darkened a bit. I'm sending them to Railcar Fine Good for hemming, and I'll get some new pic pics once I get them back. This is a really nice pair of jeans and I'm looking forward to wearing them. I'd say this cut is between a slim cut a repro cut that is popular right now, so if you want a looser fit, size up. The 33 will be slim but not tight on me. Not sure how much they'll stretch yet, but waist should stretch back to original measurement.

Hello everyone, just incase if you are interested.  I have an almost brand new pair of Oni type 3 jacket, size 40.  Bought for a 3 months work trip in Tokyo but the weather was too hot for the jacket.  Worn only a couple of times.  The jacket will be shipped from Thailand.

Oni Kiwami Type III modified. (First batch of the jackets)

Extremely (kiwami)  unique fabric. Jacket was worn religiously for a year. 2 soaks and one wash.

Before my wash unless you looked up close you won't see the details of the fabric it really just looked like a regular indigo jacket.

Super cool piece! And very cool fades.

Some updates on my 202s with the Kiraku denim, had them tapered at Railcar fine goods over the summer and have worn them for about 4 months, no washes but probably 3-4 soaks. Putting them away because it's winter now and the open weave makes it a bit chilly when it's cold and windy (plus I just got my Double Volantes that I've been waiting years to commission so I'm excited to put some wear on those). These are incredibly comfortable to wear given the pliability, the light weight and the open weave (particularly in the summer). I'm thinking of putting away a second pair of 202s because of the relaxed cut (Oni seems to change up with Kiraku cuts every year). Only thing to note, with just 4 months of wear, there's a lot of pilling around the crotch, s o I'm unsure about the durability of the denim, but I'd gladly take the tradeoff for how comfortable they are to wear
