I have the 546zr and they are currently my favourite. Although I have only worn them for a couple of months, so while to go before I can judge on their durability.

But yea so far I love their fit, how they feel and how they look.

My oni 277 vs sami 0500xx. The 277 worn harder is holding up better than the s0500xx.

I was about to say that I have heard from a lot of people that Samurais do not hold up that well, but they use all cotton construction on purpose. Some brands specifically are not made to hold up and be super durable, that doesn't necessarily mean they are of poor quality.

I like the coin pocket too and I can look past the two patches but the back pockets kill it for me. If they'd gone with either the slant pocket stitch or just the two different denims I think it would be okay but both is a little too much for my taste. I'm sure there are some folks that could pull off the look.  I'm not one of them.....

Hi guys - Wanted to share my Oni 512's with you all. I've had these for 13 months and have washed them 6 times. The crotch just went and I need to take them in for repairs. I know Oni seems to be getting a lot of flack with their recent rise in popularity, but I must say I really enjoy these jeans and how the character has aged.

Onis went on a super fun adventure 2 days ago.

Mello Yello hat (hah) / Mountain Hardwear / Oni / Danner Boots / Recommended multiday hike pushed into a 5.75 hour outing in Haleakala Crater in Maui:

Same deal with Canada Goose shell (most functional shell I've ever had and got it at a steal for a little over $200) and Patagonia down "sweater". Weather was nuts and I was cycling between no jacket and layers of these 2 on a regular basis:

Overly friendly nene. A couple miles from the last photo, the landscape is totally different:

The same nene really wants my wife's lunch. On the other side of the hill on the left was total desert. I've never been to another location where the scenery, plant life, and weather could change so rapidly. Also of note is that the only signs of human touch inside the crater, aside from the trails and a few gates, are three small cabins each outfitted with a picnic table.

After briefly seeing grass, we now appear to be on the moon. This picture still gives me chills. It's impossible to understate how insane, rugged, and beautiful, all wrapped up together, this place was.

Getting out of the crater, just over a mile from the last picture. Totally lush over here.

Bonus sunrise from the top of the crater before hiking:

Bonus wife watching sunrise. It was so damn windy.

Bonus boots after the previous day's 5.5 hour hike through incredibly muddy rainforest and an old abandoned arboretum. These guys took a beating with 11+ hours of hiking in 2 days, but they've seen worse:

LD - What cut did you get?

I received my 22oz 546ZR on Dec 22. I have worn them everyday since, except one day in my Samurai, and two days on the golf course.

I've done one wash, about 30 wears in, and just this week the whiskering is starting to show. This Natural Indigo holds on tight. Maybe the fades are showing because the last few days I've been walking through some steady rains.

How was the break in process for you?

Right now, it's really really tight and harsh. I can feel it loosen up ever so slightly after wearing them for about 20 minutes and the cotton warms up, but it's like a workout just bending over to tie my shoes.

Did you have a similar experience when you first started?

Yeah, the 22oz kabuki selvedge dries stiff (if you don't machine dry it) but softens up quite quickly. After the initial soak, it's about a week or two of still feeling a bit rough on the skin and a bit stiff. After a month of regular wear, they're quite soft. After that, any future washes will stiffen them up for a couple days if you air-dry or leave them relatively soft (but tighter) if you machine dry.

I had an old pair that I wore alternating days for about four months (in a slimmer fit) and it was showing bright blue whiskers, some combs, and noticeably lighter thighs by the end. The sheer thickness and texture of them causes a lot of friction, plus that dark indigo color shows the contrast early. Wish I'd stuck with them, personally.

Decided to get my Oni 527 secret denim's out for a run this weekend as it's been a while. Despite being a slim fit, they quickly soften up. It doesn't feel like you're wearing 20oz even when you're putting them through their paces. Top jeans - always nice for a change.

With Oni 527, Samurai S552XX, Hillside scarf, ELMC tee, RMC N3 shirt, Skulls wallet.
