absolutely hated the modern alice and wonderland. maybe its cuz i had too much of a hard on for the burton/depp combo. no homo

Nah, you're right, that movie sucked. A classic case of wasted potential. Probably not worst, but I was truly disappointed.

I think those sort of films are not truly worst though. A truly bad film must grate your soul or mind. It's not about budget, it's not about wasted potential, it's not about unrealised conceptualisation, it is about heaped, steaming piles of shit with moving pictures and sound and no redeeming features. A lot of straight-to-DVD stuff belongs here but I'm guessing most people don't watch it.

I actually thought the Burton/Depp Alice was pretty good.

And yes, I agree that budget and whatnot don't necessarily equate to a bad movie. I'll admit I liked Return of the Killer Tomatoes (so bad it was good).

If there's one movie I don't like that most people do, it's Bull Durham. Now I like baseball, but for whatever reason I just have never cared for this movie.

The worst movie ever, though, to me, must have some quality that makes its existence, or production, itself a bad thing. I'm not an expert on this kind of cinema, by any means, but I imagine there is some Italian Mondo film where they slaughter a bunch of endangered animals.

I'm currently waiting on my copy of this to arrive:

^My girlfriend loves the Notebook. I have frequently had to sit her down, like a small child, and explain to her that it is a poorly-conceptualised, cliche-ridden piece of total and utter shit. I haven't even seen the whole thing, because the bits I did see were that bad...

Inception on the other hand... Definitely not "worst", but also not "best" , as it is frequently made out to be.

^Could you elaborate as to why our choices are so far off base? Also, you should list some "very bad movies"... that's kind of how this thread works

Regarding my post that you quoted, I'll admit that Gran Torino wasn't one of the absolute worst movies I've ever seen, but I thought the characters and story were pretty shitty and unrealistic. Also, Clint Eastwood as a crotchety old man came off as more pathetic and annoying than bad-ass. Overall, I found it underwhelming and disappointing.

The Hurt Locker, on the other hand, was complete crap. I don't care how many Academy Awards it won. It was basically a movie about a crazy man running around in a bomb suit. The plot was all over the place and the movie was boring. Also, according to the few military people I've talked to, the film did not accurately portray life in that situation.

... but these are just my opinions

lol'd at someone neg repping me for saying Wicker Man

I wanted to +rep for this but I'm out of rep today.

Maybe not worst movie I've ever seen...

But when I was 11, my friend and I snuck into The Faculty. Within 10 minutes the ushers caught us, kicked us out of the movie, and told us to leave the theatre. After explaining that my friend's mom wasn't gonna be back for 2 hours, they let us stay. However, they escorted us into You've Got Mail and wouldn't let us leave. Needless to say, I loathe Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan to this day.
