Acronym.

Hey, thanks for the input.

Agreed there is a lot of variation, those veilance canvas jeans are pretty damn comfy though. Not too baggy but not sure I would want to lose the 2-3 cm for the acronyms (though I do want them!). I've usually found that acronym trousers are cut kind of small, think this has changed over time and the fit of acronym is definitely getting larger, or more 'western' over the years. I also find that the jackets and tops that I have are often larger than I would expect in comparison to other brands.

sucks not being to try any of this stuff on!

Having never worn or bought any Acronym products I cant decide between E-23 jacket and the Arcteryx Veilance Deploy Composite jacket. There seems to be some similarities between the jackets. Anyone any thought s on the matter and does anyone actually have their E-23 yet.

i have the same question, the e-j23 is on the top of my list with the veilance deploy composite jacket. but the ~150$ price difference has me wondering if the pieces similarities make the deploy jacket a better value. that and the fact that the e-j23 in large is pretty much sold out in the spots i've been checking.

I don't understand what similarities you guys see.

The E-J23 has a zipper on the back and is made in epic cotton while the veilance composite jacket is made with gore windstopper and a normal asymetrical front zip.... the model isn't even the same....

more about the overall silhouette, not concerned about the zippers. the overall garment weight and level of weather its appropriate for is what i'm looking at. deploy and e-j seem perfectly suited for Bay area spring/still spring until september weather.

Well the epic cotton will give you a great balance in breathable, water repellent and windproof.

The windstopper will provide you with windproof, highly breathable and water resistent.

I believe bay area weather is mostly strong winds right? and no regular heavy downpoor? then I would go with the windstopper.

I know a few pages back people were interested in the patina of the Limonta acr products, here's some examples of how my 5ts looks after about 2 years use, I wear it daily for approx 60 minutes on a bike so it has seen a lot of bad weather!

And a comparison between the bag and a much newer limonta 3a-mk1:

Think I preferred it without all the patina but still love this bag, daily use for 2+ years including a pretty major accident and still going strong!

Obviously they are not the same model what with them being made and designed by two compIetly different companies. I clearly said similarities and not, the same. Obviously (and I didnt really think i needed to spell this out) the acronym jacket has a zip going across the back. However in terms of silhouette and general shape they dont look dissimilar. I know they are different brands but for the non obsessed im just asking for a comparison because im prevaricating over which ,model I want to buy. I am simple asking for some specialist advice.

yes, rain is usually during the early part of year, most of the time its 50º-70º with wind depending on where you are. sounds like either is still a great choice, just a matter of how much cash i want to throw at this

Two companies can still make the same model jacket, an m65 for example is always the same basic shape as it is derived from a standard pattern. These two jackets don't have the same basic pattern nor shape thus are not even similar. If you think the shape/silhouet is similar you should check more pictures, because it's not.

If you want a simple advice then ask the correct question. Just say: which one has the better fit and which one can stand heavy rain.

Now for the advice, in high temperatures and heavy rain the Acronym jacket will perform better. Although the veilance will have better breathability which is nice with high temp. it can't stand a heavy downpoor for long. The acronym jacket will give you a better balance in that.

Regardig the fit it's just personal preference, the veilance jacket will have a slimmer more profile fit. The acronym jacket is a straight fit and can feel 'baggy' in the sleeves.

undercover73, just go with the jacket you like, they're both good for your purposes. If a jacket gets a little warm you can always vent (unzip). Epic will get a little damp in hard rain, but unless you're standing still in a full blown downpour for an hour or so, you'll stay dry, and it dries quick (in minutes).

But seriously man, E-J23 = Designed For Martial Arts Fit (DFMA) + KG Block (minimal seams) + 3D Ridge Collar + Forcelock + Jacket Sling + Vehicular Zip... hard to go back to anything else after Acroynm!

Not sure what DWR or wash-in stuff Veilance is using on their Windstopper, but the Epic'll prolly keep you drier even though they're both softshells. I've never felt my Windstopper stuff was all that particularly breathable, but I've only had it in older mountaineering fleeces, etc-

Isn't Veilance composite shell, well, composed of two materials, windstopper and gore-tex active shell (hood, some other parts) ?

Veilance windstopper products holds agains rain very well, even my blazer, breathability is very good aswell.

to anyone with a j27; just trying to verify the number of pockets, it says 5 but I spot 6? (2 front, 2 holster, 2 gravity)

How easy is it to unzip the back zip on the ej23 or whatever that ones called? In the video he made it look really easy but when is unzipping a a zipper ever that easy? I'm just imagining wearing a wetsuit and that is hardish to unzip and a pretty waterproof zipper, and for that you don't even go all the way down the thing and unzip it completely, just down your back such that you can get out.

I think the Arcteryx Veilance Deploy Composite jacket is made of two different fabrics. I know the earlier versions were and in the blue colurway you can see the back and underarms appear to be in a different fabric. Ive not seen any construction info for this season.

with the escapezips, you're not really unzipping them, it's more like pulling the two sides apart. the top part of one side of the zipper doesn't have any teeth so when you pull it to the very top, the head is no longer holding the two sides together

Oh in that case I don't really understand how it holds together. I get the top is an anchor, but what keeps the rest together and waterproof or resistant or whatever?

I think if you are looking at performance the Veilance is above and beyond the epic cotton, in weight and weather resistance the mix between mechanical stretch woven and windstop is really good for spring/summer.

I dont think as said above you can compare the 2 pieces though bar them both being black jackets with hoods, they really deliver different things and approach different problems to solve, I own both just for the record. you wont be disappointed with either but I think what you stated as your needs the composite is right for you.
