Here is a post from Dexter on Style Forum of a bunch of the different Indy Boot make-ups. Thought it was quite useful and would be good here...

Part 1:

Ok back on topic.

I actually created this compilation on the various Indys that are out there on my PC. I have to thank zippyh and amlai for this obsession.

Figure i'd post it here so everybody can check it out.

Can anyone with a lot of alden's on hand in different lasts do a comparison of how they look from the top, side, and bottom? It seems like epauletshop would be a good contender to do this. If they want, I'm in brooklyn and can do the photography if they'd let me...

whats an aberdeen last? can someone explain the shape of this? is this wider than a plaza? narrower than barrie?
believe aberdeen is one of their narrower lasts...

I think it's the narrowest of all their lasts. Plaza isn't necessarily wide, but it's my favorite, has a nice chiseled shape with a very prominent ball and a hint of a square toe.

I'm actually working on compiling a guide to all the different Alden lasts, it'll include various angles of the shoe/boot.

So far I have:

  1. Trubalance
  2. Barrie
  3. Modified
  4. Grant
  5. Plaza
  6. Aberdeen
  7. Hampton
  8. Van
  9. Tremont

If anyone else is interested on working on this guide with me let me know. I'm trying to bring as much history and general knowledge into this as possible. Also much more descriptive than just "half size down", it'd describe volume, shape, instep, etc.

This may be complex but it could be cool to do overlays of the different last shapes, either via photoshop or tracing ...

I'm sure the guys at epaulet shot could help, or jasonfoote/the guys at union made as well

Does wearing a 7.5D on Barrie last sound unreasonable if I'm an 8.5D on brannock.? I wore 8D Indy's but developed crippling foot pain and noticed my feet slipping inside the boots a bit. If I wore thick socks the pain got worse and inserts didn't help. Now I've got shell long-wings in 7.5D and I cant judge if they're too small or just snug. I've got bad arches so my feet pretty much always hurt unless I'm wearing Birkenstocks. No blisters or anything but my heels seem awfully far back on the heel pad and tend to slip out unless i stick a few band-aids on under my socks.

I've got low arches myself and sticking the Trubalance last along with a Thomas heel (the curved orthopedic type heel) on the Indy's do my feet good. I don't pronate as much and my feet feel supported. I don't have a whole lot of experience with the Barrie last but it's got a different shape to it than the Trubalance last. For starters, the Barrie last has a higher instep.

nice arrow^^

I have been very strong in my feelings the a cap toe Jumper boots is unbeatable, but those shell pit boots are hurting my feelings

I know what you mean brotha. I really wish that the Pitt Boots was a better

fit for me cuz I didn't really want to get rid of it.

It's elegance lies in it's simplicity.

I like what you done with the sole, the way the Cat's Paws are integrated in the leather looks great.

Where did you get this done?

Pretty nice collection btw.
